Translation from Right to left of course. My name is Adam and I am hung like a donkey.
None the less my time here in Egypt has been amazing so far. Our last day in Cairo was spent relatively close to the hotel. We ventured out to see the University. Unfortunately it was the last day of celebration for the end of Ramadan and everyone and their mother was out at the zoo and in the streets. Gadi Lloyd and, I stuck out like Sore thumbs as we walked down the street. Little kids and even adults just stared at us in Aww, saying "Hello" or What is your name" to which Lloyd usually responded "Ahmed." Lloyd is not an easy name for the Egyptians.
Climbin the Mast
Good ole Erek. Can you tell I really liked this guy? We met about a thousand kids named Mohamed, as he is the profit of the Muslim religion. At one point I was literally talking to four little boys named Mohamed, what a trip. At one point i dropped my water bottle and Gadi and I started kicking it around. Out of now where about 50 little boys started running toward us kicking the water bottle and eventually just wanting to take photos with us. It was really cool for about 5 minutes but then when they started following us around it was time to abort. We jumped in a cab and told Khamed our driver to take us to the Pyramids for Sunset. We made it just in time and had an amazing view of the these massive structures as the sun set in the distance.
We then jumped on a 12 hour train. Fortunately we got sleeper carts which included dinner and breakfast. Maybe we shouldn't' have stuffed our faces right before we got on...Oops!!!
We arrived in Aswan, and right a way met a local called "Jimi Hendrix" or Ramadan. He showed us around and finally found us a hotel for 10 Egyptian pounds a night.
Temple of Isis
Goddes of Magic The equivalent to about $1.66 and it included breakfast. Wow....He booked us on a Fellucca trip down the Nile as well as a tour of Abu Simbul. We only had to wake up at 3:30 am so we could cram into a bus and join a four hour convoy through the desert. The oh so uncomfortable seat was well worth it. Abu Simbul is a massive temple located about 40km from the Sudan border. It was actually cut up and relocated in order to be saved when they damned the Nile. The temple is absolutely massive. It was built around 1200 BC and is supposed to represent Ramses II overlooking time and his kingdom. He also built a smaller temple for his beautiful wife Nefrateri which was located right next to it. Holy moley
We got back to Aswan later that day after a few more temples and a quick visit to the all impresive Aswan High damn.
We enjoyed a lovely Fellucca ride during sunset on the Nile to Kechner's Island. After that we headed for dinner where for about 3 dollars a piece we chowed down. I decided to go all out and try the local
Captain Erek
Beautiful smile and a great laugh. I wish you could all meet this guy. He had Four huge gold teeth in the front and everytime he looked at you you couldn't help but smile...mehebeck Erek specialty. PIGEON!!! that's right stuffed pigeon...I hope I survive this trip...It was actually very tasty, and 4 days later I'm still kicking.
We hoped on our Fellucca the next day and sailed down the Nile in complete Darkness...Never mind that there are huge cruise liners constantly passing us and we don't even have a freakin light on our boat. The Fellucca was definitely as close to "roughing it as we have come. Luckily we remembered to bring TP cuz it was not provided. Going to the bathroom in mother nature, or in a cow field on an island in the middle of the Nile while two water Buffalo are watching you is a rather liberating experience.
We said good bye to our homeboy Erek, and headed to Luxor stopping along the way at another temple in Erdfu. I feel bad but all these temples are starting to blend together.
We arrived in Luxor and bargained for a room with the many many hotel owners that came down to meet our bus. We ended up choosing the "New Everest Hotel" for a whopping $2.00 a night which included a clean room with shower and breakfast. Omar and Ziggy
Camel Auction
Little girl posing near the camel Auction. Amazing houe behind her huh? Mud and Water...that's the trick offered us some "happy cigarettes" upon arrival and were extremely good hosts. They took us out via they're 5 series BMW. We had dinner on the Nile and then headed to Murphy's Irish pub where we drank beers, played pool, and simply chilled out. We were coerced by Ziggy and Omar to go hit on these two English women sitting next to us. I sent them over two drinks and then approached the table.
Ha ha... After finding out the two women were born in 1963 Lloyd and I aborted and sent them towards good old Ziggy and Omar but they failed to close the deal.
Today we took a tour of Valley of the Kings (where the pharaohs were buried), Valley of the Queens (where....you guessed it the Queens were buried) and some other temples like Temple of Hatsheput, where in 1995 60 something Swedish tourists were massacred. We felt very safe.
It's rather ridiculous. At all the sights they have these metal detectors that seriously serve no purpose. Every time we walk through the metal detector beep but no one ever questions us or pats us down. Interesting...
That's our lives so far. We
Hatepshut Temple
