Kerry and I
The girl responsible for introducing me to David As most of you are aware, David and I are getting married and have likely heard the proposal story through the email announcement of our engagement. So I won’t recount the tale. However, for those who only have the opportunity to find out what’s going on in my life through my blog, I realize I have left out many accounts of how our relationship blossomed. Therefore, this entry attempts to fill in the gaps of my great love affair with David (featuring London and travels).
The set-up
When I first moved to London I toured through the UK and met Kerry who was living in London. Upon discovering I was an economist she mentioned that she used to live with an economist and thought on these grounds we should be introduced. A few weeks later, back in London, Kerry and I were catching up in Camden at the Lock when unbeknownst to me David turned up. We had much more to talk about besides economics so I gave him my number which led to a great first summer in London.
Summer loving
We caught up for a drink in Soho in the middle of the week for a maybe-first-date.
Then we had the
real date with dinner at Dickens Inn and clubbing at Turnmills. There were our usual after-work meetings @ Embankment where we’d go out for a bite to eat. In between these many dates I moved around the city quite a bit. And each time he lugged my suitcases on many buses and the underground and even arranged the majority of places I stayed at through friends of his.
After traveling around Europe, he asked me to move in with him. We shacked up at the start of summer and he’s made it so easy and fun to share our space together. We survived Glastonbury and although the summer was not kind to us weather-wise we managed to make up for it on a memorable holiday in Ibiza.
Christmas and 2008
Throughout my studies, I am so thankful for the endless support he gives. I am also so excited at the possibility of living in Singapore before the end of the end of the year and even more so as I plan our wedding. All in all, two years & two weeks with my Kiwi-Brit and I'm still chuffed to bits!
Last year ended
with Christmas in London with Deepti & David. It was a great joy having her as a guest! Getting inked up with tattoos has to be the highlight. The whole experience channeled my excitement as I was finding it very difficult to harbour the secret that she was about to be proposed to in Paris
and surprised by her family over New Years.
At the end of February, Deepti made another trip to London. While neither of us expected to see each other again so soon, it was surreal that we both had become engaged! We saw Lion King in the West End- a start of my addiction to West End shows including Jersey Boys and In the Hoods.
More recently I had the opportunity to meet David's folks, who flew from NZ for a holiday. I enjoyed many stories and photos from David's childhood while we drove around England together, first to Portsmouth. We then took the ferry across to the Isle of Wight. We made a stop to visit his relatives in 'The Downs' somewhere in Sussex. Lastly we drove up to East Anglia and after seeing the broads and the coast David and
I caught the train back to London while his parents carried on to Scotland.
Last weekend I went to the Cotswold and enjoyed yet another English village in the countryside. One has not truly experienced England if one has not enjoyed clotted cream fudge and afternoon tea. This May Bank holiday weekend we've been busy planning our trip to Turkey next weekend. First big holiday of the year and I'm so excited!
Hope this blog finds everyone well and happy.
