Swimming around in the Jacuzzi- awesome!
The trade winds were moderating this week and we were anxious to explore more of the Virgin Islands. Our first stop was Culebrita, or little Culebra, just a few miles off of Culebra. We were excited to visit this deserted island which has been turned into a wildlife refuge and national park. And as we pulled into Tortuga Bay we were enchanted by its beauty. We anchored in clear blue water, turtles were swimming around beside our boat, and the white sand, half moon beach was lined with palm trees. Can’t get better than this. But unfortunately the anchorage was a little rolly from the remnants of a north swell, making it uncomfortable at times and very difficult to sleep. So this would be a one night stay only. But that certainly did not stop us from enjoying this little island during out time here.

We spent most of the day just hanging out and relaxing, swimming off the boat and playing with Kona at the beach. We hiked across the island (really only a 5 minute walk) and admired the waves breaking on the other side. Kona made friends with another salty dog named Molly while we talked to

other cruisers about our travels and our plans for the Caribbean. But the highlight of our stay was definitely swimming in the Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi is at the narrowest part of the island on the north side, where the waves crash thru a gap between the cliffs and fill giant tide pools with water. These pools are big and deep, surrounded by boulders and coral, and are great for swimming. You can watch the waves roll in from the sea and the water rushing into the pools makes little bubbles, kind of like a Jacuzzi (hence the name). Very cool! Kona was the first to start swimming, can’t keep him out of the water. But we all joined in and had a great time. It was truly an amazing place.

I guess you were not there on a holiday or week-end. It would have been very different. Mat nsspattam.bockh.com
