Songkram - thai new year

Today we ventured into a war zone. Khao San was awash with people and drenching each other was the name of the game. we made a bee line for the nearest water gun vendor but were soaked through before we had time to barter for a pistol. It was absolute mayhem! But all in good spirits- which was the really nice thing- young or old, Thai or foreigner, everyone was fair game and it was all done with a smile.

In no time we were getting into the swing of things drenching anyone and anything that moved. Floats have also been set up so i think the festival is just beginning. Shame we're leaving really- off to Kanchanaburi tomorrow to stay on the River Kwai for a couple of days (that's is we can get a ticket for the public bus- as everyone uses this time to leave Bangkok and see family- it's a mass exodus by all acounts!)

Yep. All in all, the river and the whole Kwai experience was pretty moving and we actually learned a lot about the horrors that occoured only a couple of decades ago. Kanchanaburi was a nice chilled out place- the first spot off the beaten track (well kind of) that we really enjoyed. First of many that is! Glad to see you're getting to grips with the old internet. keep the messages coming. Speak soon
