Tour Day~~Jelly Belly Factory

This is one tour that was full of kids! We opted out of one tour, and waited for the next one (in 10 minutes) hoping for a quieter bunch to travel with! They have a good set up for tours, as you travel along an overhead hallway with glass sides, which wanders through various stages in the plant. At certain points the tour guide would stop and explain what was going on, and then we’d watch a video clip of the process, and in the meantime we could see the workers below us. Very informative…did you know there are “belly flops”? The rejects are for sale in the factory at reduced rates. Also, they sell the post-holiday items for a very reduced rate. That’s the first factory we’ve been to where they offer their product for a much lower than retail price.

About the camp….the daytime temperatures are very close to the temps in Sidney right now, but we don’t get quite as cold at night. It’s also windy, not at camp, because we’re so nestled between the mountains, but in any of the towns

I didn’t know they make candy corn, and Sunkist Jellies. They make hundreds of different candies, and not all jelly beans.
it’s breezy. We’re told by the locals that it’s not usually this windy, so I’ll get back to you on whether or not that’s true! The staff at the camp is very friendly, and we eat lunch with them every day, and dinner together whenever there’s a group at the camp; there’ve been groups almost steady! We really get to know the staff by eating with them, so we already feel like a part of this camp.

On a funny note: there are several wild turkeys around the camp…turkeys are not known for their brains, and one of the toms keeps looking at himself in one of the glass doors on a lodge, and when he sees his reflection, he puffs up and pecks at the door….nobody is going to work his territory! Henry was riding his bike around the camp, and was down by the soccer field where the tom turkey was courting a couple hens~~ and then along comes Henry…on a bike. The tom took after him and Henry got the bike between him and tom, and the turkey would not let him go! Henry said he spent considerable time pushing the bike along between them, with

Henry talking calmly to the myoptic bird, and the bird trying to get in front of the bike so he could get to Henry. He pushed the bike from one side of the field to the other, protecting himself from the bird’s attack. Finally the turkey slowed down in his pacing, and Henry aimed the bike for his rv, and peddled FAST!! It was a stalemate, but Henry isn’t anxious to repeat the dual!

Yesterday the women had a change of work~~there was a change in the paint color, and the new paint hadn't arrived, so we cleaned the kitchen instead. There is a new cook at the camp, so we washed the walls, cleaned shelves, and generally just cleaned, so he could begin in a clean site. We all thought it was a fun change, and it's nice to clean when you can actually see what you've done.

It’s hanging in the ice cream shop. (No, they don’t make ice cream!) Notice the sugar parts of the fixture!

I don't think they play with it, they show it!

Kids used to climb on it, but insurance said they had to quit, so a playhouse was built atop it

Needless to say, we haven't been to the top of the hill! The ground is extremely soft, from years of rotting needles and branches. I don't have a picture of where we're parked yet, because the canyon is so narrow it's difficult to get a one that shows enough. I'll try again, though.

Hi, Lois!
We didn't see the turkey event, we just heard about it from Henry! But we've sure laughed about it!
