We left Innsbruck and the rain, to retreat back to Slovenia, where the weather had been great when we passed through it, and it couldn’t be any worse than Innsbruck, could it? Famous last words - over the next 4 days we had some sunny days, but the wettest, stormiest evenings and nights either of us have ever spent in a tent. So much so, that on the 3rd night, the rain was so bad that our tent was actually afloat, with all the water running down the mountainside into the campsite. Our gear in the porch was all completely soaked, and we had a great time the next day, unpacking all our gear and drying and cleaning all our clothes - joy. The campsite was also not the best we have ever stayed in - the location was awesome, right on the lake, but it was evident that the management thought that this was all they had to do - provide a fantastic view, and to hell with customer service, cleaning toilets or showers, a shop, etc. They proudly displayed their 1-star accreditation at reception, and it was richly deserved* (*dripping sarcasm)..
Well, we all have our limits, and

..stare long enough you see loads of fish! I think by that point, after 10 days of solid rain, in a tent, enough was enough, especially with Carrie & Debbie arriving from Leeds in a couple of days, it would not have been nice for anyone, so we went to the local tourist Information office to try and find an apartment to stay in for the rest of the week. Now, if it was the UK, you would be fobbed off with a list of local hotels probably and a local map if you’re lucky. In Slovenia, they just say, “We have some new apartments upstairs, would you like to look at them?” And as it turns out, a 4 bed apartment was only 20 Euros more per week than camping - we were so happy we could have kissed the woman, but we just looked very excited and said we would take it. And of course, that immediately meant that the weather was fantastic for the rest of the week, but that was to be expected, sods law!
Anyway, that’s the moan about the weather out of the way, and on to the delights of Lake Bohinj and the Triglav National Park. I have to hand
it to the Slovenians, but they know how to take care of their natural resources - there are no pleasure craft apart from canoes and kayaks allowed on the lake, the tourist boat has an electric engine, and even on the busiest Saturday, there is just the low hum of people quietly enjoying a swim and a sunbathe - Lake Windermere it aint! So me and the girls spent a nice week of sunbathing, walks, leisurely sightseeing, good cheap local wine (Barbera rocks, ask Carrie!) and generally just chilling - Lake Bohinj is highly recommended if you’re looking for a quiet getaway.
