Running together!
Me and Ralf on the beach at sunset, I was throwing his stick and Ste caught me n action! HAPPY EASTER READERS! I hope that you are all so full of chocolate eggs that the bunny left for you that you can not move..................
Work, work, work and not a lot of play for us for the past few weeks I'm afraid! From the last blog we in fact started working for the supermarket with a casual position and have ended up being there full time! The supermarket is called Cole's and is the place that is 10min walk away from the house which is fab as it is saving us so much on transport costs. I am working as a grocery assistant which basically means that I tidy the shelves, stack the shelves, and yeah that's about it really! Ste is on fresh produce or fruit and veg to me and you..........! It has been a bit of shock to say the least getting back into work, we knew it would be. The people here take a little bit of getting used to shall we say. The first couple of weeks nobody spoke to us in the store and for the people that know us especially me I love to chat and i think it is important to
Parrot
This was one of many parrots sitting in a tree by the house....... get on with people that you work with, as you spend so much time with them! I am not sure if it is just this supermarket or its the same everywhere............it is as if they don't want to know you as you are just another backpacker then after a few weeks they think oh well they aren't that bad maybe we could speak to them! So needless to say the past week or so things have slowly got better in there people have started to be a bit friendly towards us so it all helps in making the day go faster!
Supermarket work is nothing that either of us have done before and at first it was hard as they do things very differently around these parts, a bit frustrating really, that will be the moaning English in us and also all those years of customer service kicking in.....then when you are stacking shelves being told to do something by a 20yr old who is training to be your manager who speaks to the customers like something he is just wiped off his shoe and he also speaks to you like that, one has to bite her tongue which
Freo Markets
This is the main entrance to the markets, street performers entertain the crowds every weekend. is so hard! It is a very boring job and you have to remind yourself when you are trying to tidy the shelves and you have boxes of tampons falling on your head that it will all be worth it in the end and that you are being paid $20 (9quid) an hour for the privilege, you would never get that sort of money in Asda! Of course we are also subjected to Cole's FM, good old supermarket music and adverts which we both now know off by heart......very sad! Anyway we are patiently sticking with it and saving as much as we can.
Our round the world waste of time ticket expires on the 17th April the day we left the UK and we have no way of getting any sort of deal with other flights in return so we had a big decision to make.........do we go home on the 17th and have to work our socks off when we get back to even try and save a bit for our future plans? OR do we stay here whilst the money is good and we are living together in a nice house in a nice area and
Freo
This is a church in Freo, something new for us to see a church with palm trees outside! of course we have Ralf? It was a hard decision to make as we both really miss our family and friends and would love to see them all, but we both know that coming home in a few weeks would be the wrong thing for us to do and we would kick ourselves for not taking this opportunity in our lives........you are only allowed one working visa (unless you do 3months in agriculture to extend it) and a lot of people would never get the chance to do what we have and are doing so we want to make the most of every thing we can. There is so much more we want to do and see, the more people you meet the more places that go n the list they inspire you! For anybody that wishes to come visit there is an open invite.........come on over!
Living here in Perth has grown on us since we arrived, it is a chilled out way of life, not as chilled as NZ but i doubt anywhere is! ha ha ha. We have been loving taking Ralf to the beach at night time as we are mainly working 6am-3pm we can
Sunset
Sunset at the beach, there are lots of boats that come into the busy port in perth day and night. go after work which is great. He loves chasing sticks that we throw for him...........don't know where i would be without animals around me! Other animals that we have experienced since we have been here are crickets in my jars of dry fruit which Ste keep as a pet until it sadly died and a infestation of ants, random cockroaches and a huntsman spider! Huntsman spiders are a large spider that likes to bite, hmmmm this one was in the kitchen between the window and fly screen so we couldn't get to it, now it has disappeared some where into the house hopefully never to be seen again! No snakes just yet but i am sure that is to come! The fish in the tropical fish tank have had babies, they started off with about 15 of them now we are down to 4, only the fittest survive i guess! They grow by the day it is so cool to watch!
On one of the of occasions that we have been out to play we went to see Kelly Clarkson in concert here! She was playing at the basketball arena which holds about 4,000 people, pretty small compared with
Give me the stick!
Ralf waiting for Ste to throw his stick. home! Ste surprised me with the tickets bless him. It wasn't even full, we were standing on the floor and there was loads of room and we had a fab clear view of her........she was fantastic live her voice was spot on! We have got tickets to see James Blunt there in a few weeks so that should be good too we can not wait!
So there you have it not a lot to report on really, to sum it up we are just working after having the best 10 months ever travelling around, we had to go back to work at some point nothing for free hey! We have spent Easter weekend half working and half down the beach, bummer when we hear it has been snowing at home! I made crispy cakes but they don't do mini eggs over here can you believe it??!!!!! so i had to substitute them for mini marshmallows instead! they tasted jut as good in fact i may go get another one out of the fridge! I am enjoying cooking and am currently teaching Ste how to cook, He is a great apprentice!
Enjoy the rest of your chocolate eating everybody
Bex at sunset
