Here are some photos taken in Interlaken over the course of our time there. It is a beautiful setting, nestled in a mountain valley between 2 lakes (hence the name).

We had a great dinner one night at a wine bar called Benacus, right off the old town square. J had a fabulous selection of cheeses with nuts and fruit as a appetizer. They feature a "cheese bar" so he was able to choose his cheeses from a nice array; the chef explained each one as an added bonus. The ambience is very nice, well thought out and relaxing. Unfortunately, the waitress told us a new owner is taking over in January and has big plans to change the menu and the decor. We say if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

The town of Interlaken itself is ok. It's clean and safe, but not quite as nice as other places we've been in Switzerland (except for Visp - Visp is the Tacoma/Everett/New Jersey of Switzerland). For example, the Sunset and Main Street pictures are taken directly in front of a Hooters! Weak. Then again, the surrounding lakes and mountains really do make for beautiful surroundings.

Our hotel was fine, and Interlaken is a reasonable jumping off point for a lot of nearby mountain activities, but it might be nicer to stay in other small towns such as Grindenwald or Murren (which has no cars and is perched on a mountainside at 5400 feet). Interlaken is distinctly not in the mountains, at only 1870 feet).

Also, we've included a picture from the nearby mountain town of Grindenwald. We haven't seen a toy like this before - it's a large cirular disc that can spin, and also tilt on a huge ball pivot joint. Seems like a teeth busting kind of dangerous. Kids were actually jumping from one side to the other while it was spinning. . J had to wait a long time for kids to get off it, and quickly got dizzy trying to see how fast it would go. Hard to believe t-shirts and light jackets were all that was needed in late October in the Swiss alps!
