Compared to the Philippines, Malaysia has definately not been as eventful, however I think we can safely say we like this place though, it was like a breath of fresh air getting off the plane in Kuala Lumpar (KL). No one jumping on you for a taxi or hotel, you were on your own just to make a decision, just the way we like it!!!!

KL was very cosmopolitan city with a great transport system and a fair few things to see. We of course visited the Petonas Towers but got there too late for tickets to go up (no comment), as they only have a certain number for a day. we weren't too bothered as you can only go as far as the bridge on the 42nd floor so we opted for the KL Tower the 3rd largest in the world, with great views over the city.

We arrived on a sunday which happened to be the final day of the Langkawi cycling tour so there was thousands of locals and tourists everywhere, we tried to get on T.V but don't think we succeded!!!!! The finish line was at Merdeka Square a large recreation area that looked like an historic little britain, with tudor style buildings, it was really nice. They had locals competing in tug of war and netball competions, (jen was in her element, couldn't get her away from it!!!)

We visited Batu caves, which is the best place to visit the annual hindu festival of Thaipusam. Millions visit this shrine to engage or watch the masochistic fetes of devotees where they pierce themselves with hooks and metal spikes and sometimes pull carriages along with them, however we were about 4 weeks late to see it, Looked interesting on the pictures though.

We then had a few days in the Cameron Highlands which is in the centre of peninsular Malaysia. It was around 1500 meters above sea level, was alot cooler especially at night. Because of the climate they grow alot of strawberries an tea here, so obviously we visited the various plantations. We visited an ace insect park where day had a giant scorpion thrown onto his chest, i've never seen him smile so much with so many beasties for him to hold!!!!! Its also famous in this area for the trekking and we managed to get one in before we heaed for

Jen was a bit pekkish!!
a few islands for a well deserved rest Ha Ha !!!!!!!!!

Penang Island on the west coast was the first and we arrived just in time for the end of the chinese new year, lots of massive and loud fireworks and celebrations, which was cool as we missed the beginning of the new year. Batu Ferrenghi is the beach resort on the island, we did abit of sight seeing, trekking and lazing around although there are loads of jelly fish in the sea so no swimming there.

Dan plucked up the courage to have his first hair cut without being in the safe hands of Rocket Ron, He ended up with an indian head massage, stinking of lavender and being threatened with a cut throat razor. He blended in quite well with the locals.

And finally was Langkawi a small island further north towards Thailand. I managed to persuade Dan to have a nicer accomodation and i got to pick......... We ended up with a beach front villa HA HA! The beach there was gorgeous but there was so many tourists to share it with. The island was geared to tourists so much that it even had

a man made plastic waterfall as one of the attractions to see, which of course we visited whilst roaming the island by moped (Of course this time we had an upgrade to a 125cc).

As Andrews wedding is now on the horizon we thought it best to move our way up to Thailand. we don't dare miss the date as Mrs Day and Mrs Negus are on there way over........ Its more than our lives are worth!!!!!!!!!

TTFN, Hope everyone is ok xxxxxxx

Good job I read this when I got back home Dan. Cheeky devil, just you wait till I see you again. It was fantastic seeing you both, you looked really well and what a tan!. We are now back in rainy England, done the washing, put the holiday stuff away and are just about to visit Asda, I wonder if they do Thai beef with cashew nut and pineapple shakes. We had a fantastic time with all of you and it will keep us going for the next eight months - I hope. All our love Mum and Dave
