My Luggage
Here's everything I had to move to Seminar House 4. It took me 3 trips! So yesterday was the big day...
MOVING DAY! I finished with classes at noon, so I came back to my room to finish up my packing. I had packed the majority of my things the night before...all my clothes and shoes and books, among other things. So really all I had to do was get everything together before 2 PM when I was scheduled to check-out. And checking out turned out to be a lot more complicated than I expected...and kind of ridiculous if you ask me!
The seminar house okaasan (mother) had to come inspect my room and everything before I could leave. So she comes in and looks at my room and says she can't inspect anything until I vacuum the entire room and move my futon to the living room. So I had to move my futon to the living room, then vacuum the entire room...even the dresser and desk drawers! I finally finished vacuuming and she checked off everything in the room, but then when she went to check the bedding items, I didn't have the extra top blanket they had given us. And I wasn't the one who lost it. When the homestay student who
Help!!
Wondering how I'm ever going to move all this stuff... was with us at the beginning of the semester left, they took away my blanket with her futon because it just disappeared! So that's about $50 right there that I have to pay...and it got even worse. When okaasan was checking my kitchen cabinet, she made me wash every single dish in there again. They weren't even dirty, and some of them I hadn't even used while I was there. I thought that was pretty ridiculous! You know, I never really like our okaasan. Both our okaasan and otousan were very strict and not very friendly. So I wasn't sad at all to be leaving them!
So an hour later, after I finally got all checked out, I had the exciting task of moving all of my luggage to seminar house 4! I had a huge suitcase and a dufflebag, as well as about 3 or 4 other bags with my shoes, food, and other random items in them (which you can see from my picture). And I was supposed to move them all the way down the street, across the park, and across the main street to seminar house 4. My friends were still in class and I
Seminar House 4
Here's my new seminar house! tried knocking on the door down the hall to see if any of the guys were there, but no one was...so I was left to do it myself! I really didn't mind doing it on my own. I knew I could do it, it would just have saved me a trip if I had someone else. Oh well! So first I took some little bags and rode my bike over to seminar house 4. I went ahead and checked in there so that I would have my room and keys and everything. Then I rode my bike back to seminar house 3 to get my big suitcases. I basically had the dufflebag over my shoulder, which probably weighed about 30 lbs, and pulled my other suitcase on the other side, which also had another bag attached to it. It was such a funny sight! I looked so sad dragging all my luggage down the street and across the park. Needless to say, I got a lot of stares! This one van even stopped and pulled over to watch me for a few seconds...and the walk took about 10-15 minutes. I had to take a break 3 times and switch sides
The Entrance
The main entrance to the seminar house for my dufflebag. It was quite a challenge! But I finally made it to seminar house 4. But I still had to go back to get my bike from seminar house 3, since I had left it there along with my one last small bag. So I walked over there again and got my bike, said sayonara to seminar house 3 forever, and left. I really don't miss that place at all, honestly.
So back at seminar house 4, my new home, I took all my luggage up to my room and opened the door to see...
A COMPLETE MESS! There were clothes and everything scattered all over the room, it was a complete wreck. And this girl, apparently my roommate, was like "oh, no one told me you were moving in today." So as she's frantically trying to clean up the room, I brought my luggage in. She managed to have the room fairly organized in about 10 minutes (although I think she just threw everything in her closet!). Her name is Elena, but I think she said she goes by something like "Nenna"...I'm not sure though. And she's American, she goes to school in Alabama. She
Umbrellas
The little area by the door where you can leave your umbrella seems nice, but she's also a bit loud and overbearing at times! At least I have someone I can talk to...I talked to her more the first day than I had talked to my old roommate in a whole month! But I have noticed, after living with her for a couple of days, that she is very messy and unorganized. Guess that shouldn't come as a surprise though, considering the way the room looked when I arrived! If you look at our room, you'll notice that my side is really neat, and her side looks like a tornado came through it! Yeah so I don't know how this is going to work out. I don't think I can tolerate her for a whole semester. So, I'm talking another girl who doesn't like her roommate, and we were going to see if we could change to be together. I hope I can move in with her! Why can I never be satisfied with my living situation?
But, on a more positive note, I really do like my new seminar house! It's the newest seminar house, so everything in the room is pretty new and a lot nicer than my old
Shoes!
Here's where everyone leaves their shoes... room. And it's definitely a lot more exciting. Otousan and Okaasan aren't strict at all. They actually leave at 10 after they lock the gates, so people pretty much do whatever they want after that. Technically visitors aren't allowed to be here between 10 PM and 9 AM, but people come after 10 all the time! And we have a really cool RA who doesn't care what anyone does, so that always helps. Yeah, it's pretty nice! And I guess seminar house 4 is kind of like the party house. It has the most people living in it and it's so much more social. That's the main reason I like it so much! The atmosphere is just so much more exciting than seminar house 3. Oh, and since it's located right off of the main street, the bike ride to school is a lot safer. I can ride on the sidewalk the whole way, no more narrow residential streets! Haha although I did almost crash twice on the sidewalk the other day...I almost ran into one of the little poles in the middle of the sidewalk, and then I almost had a head-on collision with another biker. But hey, I'd
Lobby
The main lobby area rather crash into one of those things than being hit by a car any day!
And that reminds me of something completely unrelated...it's really windy here! The weather's warmed up a little bit, meaning no more snow and sometimes sunshine, but it's still pretty cold. But this past week it has been extremely windy. The wind is so strong that when I'm riding my bike I can feel it pushing against me, and it makes it even harder to move, especially when you're climbing a hill. This past weekend it was so strong that while me and Leilani were riding on the side of the road, it was pushing us out into the traffic!! It was crazy...that was also the day that we rode our bikes about 5 miles around Hirakata and ate at the kappa sushi place again. Oh and I also took pictures of cute Japanese kids secretly...they were so adorable 😊
