Patitos! Patitos! Patitos!

Patitos... Spanish for "little ducks". Yes, Spanish. Not Czech. (My roommate is Spanish and neither of us know Czech. Back off).
As puttered around our room on Friday, with no particular inspiration on how to spend my day, Mati invited me to join her on a trip to Veveří Castle. Thank goodness for Mati, because adventuring is a bit more fun when someone has at least a general clue as to where you should be heading, at this point, anyway. We took the tram to a stop at a small residential area. I am not sure if it is technically still in Brno, but it definitely was a bit more rural than the area of the dorms. We stopped to look at all the ducks in the small river that flows through the area. They were quack, quacking and happily attacking small morsels of bread that other bystanders brought for them. From there, we boarded the bus that would take us to the castle and rode… We were dropped off at a small, wooden shed-like structure that apparently marked the bus stop.

There were no helpful “go this way!” signs nor even breadcrumbs to direct us to the correct path from which we might approach the castle, so we simply wandered and followed any bare patch of dirt that continued steadily for more than a few feet. We wandered all around the castle, taking lovely pictures, but my fearless friends and I were unable to find a way in! I think Mati summed it up nicely: “Where is the damn door?! Let me in already!”

Weary from our hike around the castle (yeah, don’t let anyone tell you that Moravia is flat), we took a bus back to the tram stop and got some dinner at a local restaurant. All I can say is, I don’t think I would eat as much pizza as I have now even if I lived in New York City!

We were going to go bowling when we returned to our residence hall, but the place was already booked. It gets dark early here (which means I get sleepy and boring early here) so I stayed in and read before bed.

Saturday… Hmmm. Saturday was apparently utterly unremarkable because I haven’t a clue what I did. That is terribly pathetic. Saturday in a foreign country, and I have no recollection of how it was spent. (Note to self… leave room…) Oh, wait, I think some laundry was involved…
Keep Your Ducks in a Row! Keep Your Ducks in a Row! Keep Your Ducks in a Row!

Quite literally, ducks in a row...
