So, I have been working in the Budapest office of Habitat for Humanity Hungary (HfHH) for the past week. It was great for me, since I already knew a number of the people, going into this adventure. Let me explain who my colleagues in the photo are...Gyuri is the National Director for HfHH, Andras is the Donor Relations Manager and is currently responsible for organizing the in-coming volunteer teams, Zsuzsa R is the Program Coordinator, Zsuzsa D and Gabor take care of the Finance Department and Eniko is the Office Manager (we also have a communications intern, Zsuzsa). Mike, Beth and William are a family from the US who are doing a long-term volunteer stint as well....they started here in Budapest just prior to my arrival and will move to Hajduboszormeny to support the new affiliate there, as of the start of March.

The focus of my job at the office is mainly to support Andras, who has many other jobs on his plate. I have been organizing information for in-coming volunteer teams, making contacts with team leaders to gather information, create itineraries and budgets, working on documents etc etc. It is a total change of pace from teaching, which is exactly what I was looking for. Since I like meeting new people it is a great opportunity for me to connect with team leaders from all over the world and I am hoping to meet some of them in person when they come to Hungary. Last Thursday I was quite happy to go out for dinner with two team leaders from Dallas who will be bringing a group of 42 (mostly high school students) in June. They were a ton of fun and I am very much looking forward to spending time with them at the affiliate.

My office is about a 30 min walk from my apartment - for those who know the city, it is one Metro stop from Heroe's Square. Since the weather has been pretty great (+9C today and warmer temps predicted for the rest of the week) I have really been enjoying the walk. I go along Andrassy ut, which is the main avenue running through Pest....near where I live it is mostly nice stores and restaurants, along the way there are more apartments and then nearer my office there are a number of Embassies. It is a wide, tree-lined street, with so many beautiful old buildings - a great way to ease into the day on the way to the office and a great way to leave work behind on the way home.
