Edit Blog Post
Well a lot has happened since my last blog and wanted to get ya’ll caught up.
Back in January I went to India for another Marriott trip; it all started on Monday night 13 January when I got a call from my boss saying I need to be in India on the 14th. The office booked my flight from Seoul to Mumbai (Bombay), I had to book round-trip flights from Mumbai to Hyderabad and Mumbai to Goa. Let me just say that the flight to Mumbai was an ass whip the only saving grace was that I flew business class, I left Seoul at noon Seoul time, went to Hong Kong for a 1 hour lay-over, now this was my first international flight with a lay-over, I just assumed that I would be able to get off the plane…uh….NO, after the lay-over I was off to….New Deli for another 1 hour lay-over, after this rest stop it was off to Mumbai, our plane landed at around midnight, I finally get to the hotel at 1:30 AM Mumbai time 5:00 AM Korea time. This flight took 17 hours; it only takes me around 14 hours to fly from Seoul to Atlanta.
I did not get much sleep since I had a 6:00 AM flight to Hyderabad for a meeting, somebody was supposed to meet me here and drive me to my meeting. I walk outside and try to see my name on any sign, and there were many….but not one had my name on them. So now I had to call the Project Manager, but I have no phone, and I have no money, but I did sweet talk an Indian woman into using her phone, and got it all worked out (because of this I know have a new cell phone which works any where). After a late flight back to Mumbai it was another 6:00 AM flight, this time to Goa, after the meeting it was back to Mumbai, a taxi to the International airport and repeat that same ass whip of a flight back to Seoul.
The trip was way to short and no free time for any pictures, but I will be going back and hopefully I will get to enjoy the country more.
On 27 January Pearl and I went snowboarding, the week before we actually received some decent snow almost 12” for the week,
for my friends in the Aspen area please don’t laugh at this weak weekly total. We got there early in the morning and practiced on the beginner hill until after noon when we bought a 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM pass and actually went down some nice runs, around 4:30 we were at the top of the mountain and I was taking a picture of Pearl, well her snowboard started to slide down and I stopped it with my right hand, and received a nice laceration on my thumb and palm. I saw that it was bad and grabbed a handful of snow and put over the slice, I had Pearl ask for a Band-Aid at the chair operator building, but they did not have any; but he did wrap it in gauze. I then proceeded to snowboard to the first-aid station, were I was told I needed stitches. A free ambulance ride to the hospital and a short wait and it was my turn, we go into the emergency room, and I notice dried blood footprints on the floor, a couple of stainless steel holders full of brown liquid and instruments, it just didn’t have the clean feel to
it. Well two weeks later it is time to get my stitches out, and I’m in a room with a gentleman that looked like he had his knee scoped and was about to get his stitches out also. The doctor came in and looked at my hand and told the assistant to remove them, now I guess I was expecting some type of fancy stitch removing instrument, but instead he pick up an Exacto blade, yup just the blade, and some scissors and proceeded to cut my stitches out. He would grab the stitch with the scissors and flick the blade, and not a very sharp blade, across the stitch until he cut it. But they are out and my thumb works so I guess it could not be too bad.
Finally; this is more of a condolences to the people here in Korea, this past Sunday night Korea’s #1 National Treasure, Sungnyemun (South) Gate in Namdaemun, burned down and is a total loss, if you go back to my last blog “Merry Christmas” I included a picture of it. It was a very majestic structure and was very cool walking through a structure that was over 600 years
old. The pictures of the “South Gate” in this blog were taken three days before the fire, hope you enjoy.
PS - Update, this past weekend I had Lasek eye surgury, it was a successful, Saturday and Sunday were painful, felt like my cornia was scratched and a spoonful of sand in each eye. But now they feel great.
