From Penang we made our way down to the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. We knew that it was going to be a fairly long journey but the coach turned out to be one of the nicest we had been on! It was called 'SuperNice' which we thought might have been a bit hopeful but it actually was SuperNice. We had a nice big reclining seat each with only 3 in each row so we had plenty of space to stretch out.

We arrived in KL and had a short walk to our hostel and then we set off exploring. We stayed near the centre of KL, near all of the restaurants and huge shopping complexs that are there, and had a brilliant time. We only had 3 nights planned in KL as we had our flights booked over to Borneo, but we liked it so much that we went back for another 3 days after Borneo (hence we've done the Borneo blog already!!).

The one attraction that we were really looking forward to visiting was the worlds tallest twin buildings - The Petronas Towers. They were only about 20 minutes walk away so we set off early in the morning and got there about 8am. Each day, they let up to 1200 people go up the Towers to the Skybridge which is on the 44th floor and connects the 2 towers. From here we had brilliant views of the KL skyline - from eye level! Even though we got there at 8am and it didn't open until 9:30am, due to the fact the tickets are free there were already 300 people in the queue so we had to wait for a bit but we did get to go up the Towers that day. At night the Towers are lit up and they look spectacular whether your stood directly beneath them or from miles away.

As mentioned before, we were near several massive shopping centres - 7 in all and every one of them was impressive. As we only had a week left before we touched down in Adelaide we took advantage of the cheap prices and purchased ourselves some presents! At least 2 of the shopping centres had only opened 2 months before we arrived so they were full of brilliant new shops and due to the Chinese New Year being just around the corner there were sales on everywhere! This also meant it was a good place to 'hide' when the rains came. Every day that we were there it hammered down. 4pm on the dot every day. It wasn't like English rain where it starts to drizzle and then slowly gets harder, it was more like someone had turned the worlds biggets shower on and left it on for 2 or 3 hours. But as soon as it stopped the shopping centres all emptied out and everyone carried on as normal.

After spending a total of 6 nights in KL, we'd have no hesitations in going back. While we were there we still tried our best to stick to our budget by eating at the hawker stalls, espescialy in Chinatown, but there is such a huge mixture of good food at ridiculously low prices you never get sick of the same food. All in all it was a good end to our time in Malaysia. From lying on beaches to climbing mountains, then watching Monkeys and Orang Utans larking about and finally enjoying the hustle and bustle of city life it was a real mixture of activities over the 3 weeks that we were there and definately one of the most enjoyable sections of our travels.
