Travel Guide...Travel Guide...Travel Guide...

Pink for where we're headed, green for where we've already been...
G'day Mates! We are officially in Australia, despite the fact that we cannot tell the differences between British and Aussie accents...we'll figure it out!!!
I arrived first at the Brisbane Int'l airport and waited for Kat to arrive...I made some phone calls and had hopefully my first and last experience with Australia stealing my money - via payphones...
Kat arrived just on time and we hung about and waited for our bus to take us the 3 hour drive to Byron Bay...met some really cool girls from Japan, England and Germany on the bus...

Walked around in Byron with our packs (so hot!) and just missed the downpour of rain by minutes as we searched for Colin's hostel where we hoped to find rooms...we didn't find Colin or Tiko or a room at his hostel, but found a really great hostel, and a bunk bed in a room with 14 other people a few doors down!!

We were dead tired and hot, so after a trip to the supermarket, some fruit, bagels and showers, we hit the hay around 10...

FEeling MUCH BETTER and more settled today...already have spent a whopping amount of cash on just getting here,

Waiting for a ferry that would never sail, we hit the highway and got on a last minute flight to the VAN airport...this is Shelia, my travel mate given to me by Frederique and Gabrielle...
eating and sleeping, so mom and dad, look out for that phone call to SEND MONEY!!

Tomorrow is a day of surfing (it's SO similar here to Tofino waves), Monday is Nimbin with Tiko and Colin, next Wednesday we head back to Brisbane to fly out to Melbourne early Thursday, and a camping/surf trip with Tristan for a few days after that...after that, who knows?! We're trying to plan a route through the outback to Carins...

A few things I need to figure out, and change about myself on this journey, as decided by Kat and myself...

Number one
Stop being such a packhorse Less is more - WAY MORE

Number two
Aussie's are so laid back and amazing...as the driver said on his way over when I may or may not have complained about the rain, "the rain was meant to be!" ... RELAX

More later, miss you all more than I ever ever ever expected...
Mom and Drew, your books are in the mail

Love love love,
Erin

G'Day
Erin: great to hear that you got to Australia safe and sound. It is very expensive north of Brisbane, however I know your Mom and Dad would love to send money!! Still raining here, I was up in Qualicum to visit my parents, and on the way home it poured, and I just love the Malahat in the rain. Looking forward to your next entry. Melbourne is a fabulous city. Go to South Melbourne Beach and the Great Ocean Road. Very cosmopolitan! Love Kathie

greetings from home
Erin, keep up the blog. The photos came through beautifully. As I read the blog and looked at the pictures it reminded me of "others who have gone before you". I laughed over Kathie's comment about Mom and Dad being only too happy to send money----I can hear your Dad now, saying, "yeah, get a job". Our 11 year old granddaughter told me a saying that I think is sage and precious "Some people pursue happiness, others create it" (this is YOU!) Enjoy your travels and the wonderful people that you meet. Love Lyn
