In the Dryer

I hate one night stands. They’re exhausting. And, since my least favorite part of the day is focus (which takes forever and is boring for me), I’m always bummed to get only one show out of all that work. In the next city, I get 2 shows from a focus, and after that, it should be like 4-6, which will be nice. Settled in one hotel for a bit. Maybe I’ll even wash my clothes! Plus that will be nice because there won’t be early ins every morning, just shows.

Today, we played some church-turned-theater in Charlotte, NC, that was itty-bitty. The number one line of the day: Somebody put the theater in the dryer. The proscenium was 24’ wide. Generally, our show is 36’. Wow. Nothing could fly, as it was a hemp line. A lot of things got cut, but the in went really quickly.

2 different kids were out sick today. But Uncle Robert was feeling well enough to sing. The adults do a “Steal Away” number with three-part harmony which is amazing. Because of him being sick, they haven’t been able to do it the last few shows. But it seems now Florence is getting sick. Ugh!

When I was 8 or so, ACC came to our church, and we hosted some of the girls. I looked up the year, 1996, to see if I could figure out which choir it was. Today, I was talking to one of our African chaperones, Prossy, and asked if she was in Washington state when she toured. Yes. In 1996. Prossy toured with Anna and Rose, the two girls we hosted, and actually came to my church 12 years ago! The world is certainly small. Good laughs.

As I’m sure most of you know, tornadoes ripped through the Midwest yesterday. Honestly, we were just hours ahead of them. They went right through were we drove. The kids were closer to them last night. One of the drivers today said, “When I left it was pouring rain. Up until 20 miles ago, it was pouring.” God has blessed us with safety. But we’re back in North Carolina, with it’s dumb trees and humidity. And we made another circle. Is anyone following this on a map? It’s crazy!

A few days ago, Kyle and I saw a cow in a trailer being pulled behind a truck. I asked if we could get one, and he said no. That same day, we saw a semi with a dog in it. Again, he said no. But, today, I asked the kids if we should get a cow or a dog, and Brenda said if we got a cow, she would be it’s doctor, but Ruthie would prefer we get a dog. At lunch, we were wandering the city and found a BBQ truck, which was amazing, and I told them I’d rather us tow a BBQ trailer than an animal.

En route to Greenville, SC- not Greenville, NC. Apparently, this was quite the confusion- our show was booked in SC, but we ended up with some hotels booked in NC and some in others.

One of my scrollers was not working today. When I plugged it in, it homed, then after that wouldn’t do anything. I took out the fuse, but it didn’t look blown, and all was patched correctly. That fuse went into another one, which confirmed that it was in fact dead, but the working fuse made the scroller go half a turn and literally scream at me. It was not happy. The tension was off, so I ended up opening it up and re-stringing it. Quite exciting! It was a blast!

Tech stuff
OH! That tech talk sends chills up and down my spine. Are you washing your hands after you touch all that dirty gear? Bar-B-Que get it as often as you can, yum! Do you like the dry rub or the marinade? Ribs, pulled pork, brisquet, or chicken? Dave
