We arrived! Landed at the Cape Town airport around 5:45, and at the hotel about 6:45am. The roads were super quiet, quite a contrast to last year when we arrived in time for the morning rush hour. The hotel is nice and in the midst of the restaurant district. Surprisingly, it is only about 3 blocks from the hotel we stayed at last year. A pleasant area to be based in.

Jetlag has hit me quite hard today, Chris is used to the time difference from his past 2 weeks in West Africa. I managed to stay awake all day yesterday, with only 3 hours of sleep on the plane the night before. Last night, I managed to get almost 5 hours on the 12 hour flight, but then we were woken at 4am for breakfast. Needless to say, I have had 2 naps today. Hopefully tomorrow is a little easier.

Our meals have been wonderful. Lunch was at Greens, a little restaurant just out the door from the hotel. Chris had a foccaccia sandwich and I the chicken burger with tomato and feta (excellent!). For dinner, at the 5 Park Road, which is on the other side of the Greens Restaurant, I had the most amazing seafood curry. It was so tasty, yet not too spicy, full of a white fish (forget the name) and calamari. Chris had an ostrich burger, which I sampled, and it was delicious too. We then lingered over wine and tea. Did I mention, both of these meals were on terraces in the warm sun (about 30 degrees Celsius during the day and around 15-20 degrees this evening). It felt so warm on the patio, but locals near us were asking for the outdoor heaters to be turned on. Such a nice change from the -20 in Kamloops. I just read this to Chris and he says I am being mean writing about the weather (sorry, but it is such a nice change of pace!).

Not much else new here. Tomorrow, we will try to get out and do something, if I can stay awake. The conference starts Monday and goes till Thursday. Will try to write each day while we have easy access to the internet. Hope everyone is well!
