This is a French rest stop. And here, there was the French version of gas station coffee! Karla, I love you, and thought of you when we ordered.
So the subject of this blog is twofold, but in general concerned with this weekend's festivities. First, on Friday night the host family of one of my groupmates, Mary-Clare, invited a few of us over for a crepe party. We had ham and cheese crepes for dinner and then for dessert, I kid you not, we each put away 12 dessert crepes. Crepes with jam, nutella, peanut butter, sugar, lemon, it was crazy but delish. We even got to help make the crepes! (See pictures for a view of the festivities). It was really nice to meet another French family. They were very curious about us and what we were studying, and as usual, we discussed the differences between France and America. Its a very common topic for obvious reasons.

Then, on Sunday, we conquered the Soldes (or sales). In France, it is nationally decreed that for a week in January, each store must have sales. And as the week progresses, the sales get bigger. It all culminates in a day-after-Thanksgiving type craziness, and we decided to take a trip to this HUGE outlet mall in Troyes. It was a three hour drive to get there, and we shopped for

literally hours before heading back, but I found some great deals! (See more pictures of this adventure below). But like I said, it was crazy. When I was in line at Lacoste, a woman and a man started fighting because the man had taken the woman's spot, and the woman to be kicked out of the store because she was screaming and pushing everyone.

All in all, it was a fun and productive weekend. I was also able to do my laundry for the first time, change my sheets, and vacuum my room. I am very content as I write this. Of course, I miss everyone, but I'm starting to get settled here in Besancon.

We began our last week of intensive language courses this week, and next week our semester begins. I haven't chosen my classes yet because we had another round of placement tests today (that lasted 6 hours, yikes!) and we have to wait for the results to choose the level of classes.

Random observation of the day, I saw a woman riding the bike and smoking at the same time. Only in France.

Kara was pooped, as we all were. Starting at 6 am and getting home at 9 pm was absolutely ridiculous.
