Jaipur

We travelled by Shatabdi Express this morning to Jaipur. I must say - the train was excellent - on time, no delays, serving complimentary tea, water, breakfast and newspapers on board and all for a fraction of the cost of trains in England!

Anyway we arrived in Jaipur at 11.00am to be hassled at the train station by very persistant touts who pretended to be there to take us back to our hotel. The overheard my name and kept saying that the hotel had sent them to collect us - luckily we had the hotel number and when we called them to double check we found out they were trying to con us!! That, we are beginning to learn, is just India. You can't fight it - just be careful not to fall for it!

Our hostel here in Jaipur is fantastic - such a contrast to the one in Delhi (but then the city is much nicer). The Hotel Pearl Palace is located within walking distance of a lot of the attractions - it is cheap (about 3 pnds per person per night) but has really elaborate decorations and very comfortable rooms. About to go up to the roof restaurant for a meal - the restaurant has amazing views over jaipur.

Earlier on we went to Galta (Monkey Temple) at sunset. Very beautiful but very eerie. The monkeys come right up to you and hold there hand out for a peanut (which we are sold at the entrance) - one monkey grabbed my flower necklace that the Guru had given me for good luck and started eating it - another tried to steal Dale's wallet from his trousers! Lots of great pictures.

Tonight we are going to relax, but we look forward to a action packed day tomorrow.
