4 Days In The Caribbean

Arrival at St Martin, the map doesnt show this location due to being so small. Then further stops at Dominica, St Lucia and Barbados. Froom there it's down to Brazil, via Devils Island

Home time 1500 hrs Ship time 1100hrs

Well here goes, last update this year.

Ok, where did I finish. Ah yes, just arriving in Dominica. Not too bad an Island, although like the rest it is all geared up for the tourists. We had to go ashore by tender and it was somewhat choppy; one or two cut fingers and we were told a broken arm, this all trying to get on and off the tenders. But me being an old sea dog, no problems, on and off like a sixteen year old.

Temperature was around 25c first thing so decided to take it easy, not that I ever rush. Went to some kind of horticultural gardens, must admit it was well looked after and some of the plants were out of this world. Surprising how well they grow when you think of how little rain they get here. Did hope to see a parrot avery in the gardens but they were breeding so the cage was locked. Bit disappointing as I was hoping to pick up a few tips.

Arriving back on ship decided to have a lay about on deck, the temperature now reaching 30c. Then in the evening, show, couple of drinks with friends and bed.

Next day, Saturday, arrived in Barbados. Again temperature in mid 20s and rising. Thought we might do something different so caught a local taxi and headed towards the beach, was feeling like home as beach called Dover Beach, although no ferries in sight. Stretched out on the sand and was just getting comfortable when the heavens opened and it rained or as we call it in the Caribbean, some LIQUID SUNSHINE. It lasted only a few minutes so then decided to get even wetter and went in the sea. Decided to have a light lunch in a beach restaurant. Picked the wrong place as the waitress thought we must have looked starved. The food came up and it could have fed an army, mind you I got through mine, don't like to waste anything, then had to wash it down with a couple of beers.

Back to ship to wave off some friends we had met on board who were flying back to the UK after their two weeks on board. We then met up with some of the staff who we had met on our previous cruise, Christine, who is now the head wine waiter, John, had a little snog and also a couple of the waiters, they were male so gave the snogging a miss.

Had a few ZZZ's then as we had to get ready for the evening; a singer, who was very good, bought his CD although had never heard of him before but think the CD was all his greatest hits. Again more drinks with friends and then to bed as we had to charge our batteries up for today, being New Years Eve. Lots going on, especially tonight, not only is there a big party on deck but we have The Bachelors on board and it is their first show, you must all remember them.

Well that's it for this year, will report again around the end of the week as we are now heading towards the Amazon and will not be there until Thursday morning.

Can both Brenda and myself wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and we shall raise our glasses to you all this evening and also to those no longer with us but not forgotten.

(note from Rob - I have tried to edit this entry, but certain parts of it make absolutely no sense to me so I couldn't do much to help you understand what Fred was actually trying to say. I assume he has had a little too much of the free booze)
