So after an epic 2 day journey from north to south of Thailand we arrived in Koh Phi Phi. We decided to start here after it had been reccomended by some of the girls on the hill tribe trek. It is an incredibly beautiful island that is still trying to get back on it's feet after the Tsunami. On arriving on the island we decided to go to one of the quieter beaches for a bit of a rest after our trek. The beach we stopped on was beautiful and at times it felt like we were the only ones there. You could only reach it by boat taxi and there are no cars on the island anyway. There was only electricity from 6pm so peace and quiet definately was the order of the day!!!! On our first day after a relaxing few hours reading my book on the hammock on the balcony I looked up at the sea in front of me to see about 10 dolphins jumping through the waves, after shouting frantically to Karen (and I'm pretty sure most of the island as well!!!!) we sat there for about 5 minutes watching them. It was amazing to be
able to lie on the hammock and watch the dolphins, they came back at the same place every day which pretty much made our trip to Phi Phi worth it all alone!!! For the rest of our time on Phi Phi we did pretty much nothing else but lie on the beach and on the hammock and relax which was definately what the doctor ordered!!!!
After our time in Phi Phi we decided to head to Koh Samui. We had heard but some bad reports about Samui but we thought we'd go and see for ourselves. Also Amy Dangerfield and Amy Sutton have been there for the last few months so we thought we'd say hi and have a few cheeky christmas drinks!!! On getting into Chaweng beach we were soon asking our selves where did we take the wrong turn and end up in Falaraki!!! The main street isn't very pretty!!! However all was forgiven when we decided to venture onto the beach for something to eat, we found a really nice chilled out bar and decided to have a few cheecky cocktails!!!
The following couple of days we spent on the beach which was a huge change
from Phi Phi as it was rammed and full of loads of touts. That evening we then met up with the 2 Amy's (a couple of friends from sutton) for a few drinkswhich turned out as you can probably tell from the pictures into more than a few!!! They introduced us to Samsong sets which is basically a bottle of 80% thai whiskey, coke and redbull !!! And yes mom I didn't drink much!! All I can say is that a lot of fun was had by all and the end of the night is very vague!!!
The following morning we were supposed to be being picked up at 7am from our bungalow, needless to say we slept straight through the wake up call !! Luckily enough or maybe not with the way we felt they allowed us to get the next one at 12, phew!!! So after probably the worst journey of our trip so far (even though it was only 90 mins long!!!!) we arrived in Koh Tao and we were not disappointed !!!!! After walking though the town which full of lots of nice chilled out shops and restaurants we found somewhere to stop just of
The view from our balcony in Phi Phi
You can't see our friendly dolphins here tho !! Sairee beach. After going to find out about scuba diving for me and deciding that 160 quid was a bit out of budget (snorkling it is then !!!) we went for a stroll along the beach just in time for sunset!!! The beach is beautiful and really relaxed there are loads of chill out bars along the beach with bean bag bars and all sorts. We decided this was for us and found a bungalow right on the beach for the next few days. It was just perfect waking up on the beach every morning (not literally !!!) After yet another day of relaxation we took a boat taxi to Nang Yauan island which is quite simply spectacular!!!! I went to do some snorkling and Karen went to, well just lie on the beach, not a bad life hey!!! The snorkling was amazing!!! The sea is really clear and you can see up to 35 meters!!! I saw hundreads of different kinds of fish and I even found Nemo!!! The biggest I saw was a 3 foot Baracuda!!!!! They float along just below the surface and have got huge sharp teeth. Luckily I didn't swim into one, they look ever so
scary!!!!!!
After yet again more chilling out and relaxing which takes us up to Christmas eve we checked into our luxury hotel for Christmas which we booked before we left called The Thipwimarn resort. It was amazing and really nice to have a bit of luxury!!! It had an infinity pool which we took full advantage of!!! i had bought a 3 foot christmas tree for Karen, so we set that up and wrapped our pressies up and put them under it and waited for santa. Unfortunately this year he had to make do with Pad Thai noodles and a singha beer instead of milk and cookies!!! Christmas day was spent relaxing around the pool and on our balcony in the day and then we went into town for our christmas dinner. We had booked an all you can eat Christmas dinner buffet at the local Aussie bar. I can assure you you we literally did eat all we could. I could barely lift the plate up and afterwards I could barely stand up. But hey it wouldn't be Christmas without a bit of over indulgence, unfortunately there was no rennies in sight afterwards!!! Boxing day was spent with
me lying by the pool reading American Phycho, mmm how Christmassy !!! And Karen having a full spa treatment including something called a body smoothie, whatever that is??? That pretty much was our Christmas in the islands we both had an amazing time and can't wait to come back!!!
We're now sat in Bangkok (again !!!) and tomorrow we'll be of to Australia for the second part of our adventure!!!! Asia has been amazing and it feels like we have seen so much once in a lifetime stuff that we need two lifetimes to fit it all in!!!! Melbourne here we come!!!! Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone !!!!!
