FRASER ISLAND
Wild Dingo Cub Today Saturday 22nd December 2007 we took a 1-day tour over to Fraser Island, which was fab. We got picked up at 8.15 a.m. by a 4 wheel drive coach (since only 4-wheel drive vechicles are allowed) and caught the barge cruise across the great sandy strait to Fraser Island. When we arrived we stopped at Eurong Beach Resort for morning tea, which is set just off the 75 mile beach. We then continued to Lake McKenzie, the most beautiful fresh-water lake I have ever seen with crystal clear waters amongst a sandy white beach. After a swim we then visited a lush Rain Forest with lots of trees and bugs....... which once was called Central Station that was mined for alluminum, tiatanium and the loggers and was home to 200 miners but this ceased in the 1970's. We then went for a buffet lunch (45mins, which wasn't long enough) because several bus loads came in and we had only got our soup and then had to queue again for our main meal, so for any travellers going here make sure you get your soup and meal together if you want to avoid the queues twice!!!!
After lunch we then
FRASER ISLAND
This is the 75 Mile Beach and where the sea is too dangerous to swim !!! visited Maheno Shipwreck, which came ashore in 1935 because the chinese took the perpellas off to reduce the drag but then when the toerope snapped in a storm, they couldn't steer it so it came aground and has been there ever since. Thereafer, we visited the coloured sands of the pinnacles and was offered a flight trip (20mins) over the Island for 70 Aus Dollars but we opted out and continued to the Eli Creek to stop for a paddle, which flows swiftly through the dunes - watch out for the spiders and snakes at the end of the walkway!!! See pictures.
The sea was beautiful, however, very dangerous and they advised us not to swim in there because of the strong undertow, sharks and stingray's.
Finally, on our way back we saw a wild dingo cub munching on the beach - south part of the island, see picture. Again, to any travellers coming out here, Dingo's are very dangerous and must not be approached since they are agressive and have taken babies in the past (i.e. Lindy Chamberlain story and the most recent in 2004 a child was attracked by wild dingos)!!
Overall, it was a
FRASER ISLAND
End of the Eli Creek where it meets the beach good day out and good value for money, so we would recommend this trip.
Tonight when we got back Shaun had a round of golf (9-hole) at the Rainbow Shores Resort. The longest hole was 126 metres and the shortest was 67.... Boooooo Hiiiiissssssss.......... He cannot wait to play a championship course !!! If you know what I mean !!! Shaun
