Famous Frozen Beauty! The most famous glacier...
I am not going to make it to the end of the world. It will only be 100 miles or so from where I'm at, but I will be close enough for me😊 I have flown down near the southern tip of Argentina to see the world famous glaciers! And they are truly spectacular. It is difficult to imagine the magnitude of these frozen beauties! And to think that I am only seeing 10% of it! The other 90% is below the water...crazy! I am so worried it's going to be cold that I almost go to a beach town instead. Since I know when I am home in a few days (yes, only a few days left...ugh..) that it will be cold and frozen and snowy everywhere. But how many times in my life will I see a glacier?! (Well, for me this will be the 2nd, due to Alaska, but none the less...) As it turns out, I am glad I go because it does not seem cold to me barely at all, around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (everything here is in Celcius, so I'm guessing) and it's sunny! When I arrive, it is actually sunny enough for me to

Notice the cool blue lighting within the ice! Sweet!
sit outside on a patio at a cute little restaurant/bar and get myself a welcoming Irish coffee to my new region. 😊

So the weather is beautiful for a frozen climate and the galciers even more so, and completely different from what I saw in Alaska. The glaciers on the mountains are beautiful due to the contrast in color with the dark mountain, but I really go crazy for the ones in the water and the icebergs...they are in such unique formations! I meet a friend on the boat tour from Germany, named Sven. Sven has taken the entire year to travel the world (bought an around the world airline ticket, as many people I meet have done). He is 29 and just finished graduate studies and is seeing the world before he gets into his career. He has crazy curly hair and is great fun. Anyway, Sven has already seen so many wonders of South America on his first 6 months and to him, this is his favorite...he wants to hug the glacier but can't, so he just takes another photo. For me, it is spectacular, but I am sorry to say that I do not have the same urge to hug it. The blue light that illuminates through all the cracks is mezmerizing. What is most exciting is the sound of the breaking, it happens continually and sounds like a gunshot echoing through the frozen world.

What else is cool is that I went "mini trecking" on the glacier. They strapped big spikes to my shoes and off we went exploring for about 2 hours. The shoes are quite handy and I could see them coming in useful in my normal life in frozen Wisconsin winters! Also, if need be...I could kick some ass with these things! After the mini treck, there was a surprise....they had set up a hidden bar of scotch whiskey in the middle of this snowy mountain off the glacier...to say it is the only time we will drink scotch when the ice is actually older than the scotch...this ice is 400 years old! (well, at least the glacier is...) Either way, the whiskey warmed me up a bit and I am always a fan of a nice glass of whiskey!
