Party Politics

Annoyingly my bus wasn't until half one, and I had to check out of the hotel at 11, so I had a few hours to wander about (though I actually messed about on the internet for most of this time). Got a taxi to the bus station only to discover I had been ripped off (as I'd kind of suspected) when I got a cab from the bus station to the hotel on arriving in Richmond.

The bus journey was OK, a bit busier than before, but I still got 2 seats to myself so was pretty happy. Got into DC at just after 6 in the evening, and Mark (who I used to work with) was there to meet me along with his wife Liz and their friend (and our chauffeur) for the next 3 days, Adrial.

On the drive back to their apartment, Adrial decided to drive past a number of the landmarks, so I got to see the Capitol, the Washington memorial and the Whitehouse lit up in the night, which was pretty cool. We grabbed some Mexican food, then Adrial went off to his work leaving party (I guess it's standard to be late for your own party over here), and the rest of us went to an xmas party for the young Republican group (Liz works in politics, campaining on behalf of a number of the Republican presidential candidates).

It has to be noted that the 'young' republicans weren't all that young, though nor were they complete twats, as I would have expected based on what I've read about Republicans, and based on the current monkey faced president.

Still, it was a pretty tame affair, which was a relief, and we got back to Mark's at around 11, where I slept on the divan, disturbed only by the 2 cats licking my face during the night. Ross would have loved it.

We did talk politics and they seemed reasonable enough. They wanted to bomb France, but hey, there's nothing wrong with that...
