So after a lovely sleep we are feeling refreshed and have a good breakfast. Today we want to see Christ Redeemer/Cristo Redentor. After looking at the map we need to find a train station on Rua Cosmo Velho that will take us to the Christ Remeemer statue.

Christ the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor), is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The statue stands 39.6 metres (130 feet) tall, weighs 700 tons, and is located at the peak of the 700m Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city.

A symbol of Christianity, the statue has become an icon of Rio and Brazil.

At the time we had no idea what a hard task that was going to be. Having travelled through Peru, Bolivia and Argentina we were just starting to get the hang of Spanish when suddenly the rules changed and now we were faced with the daunting task of asking for directions in Portuguese. Needless to say we were lost for hours and caught several wrong buses and seemed to be getting no where, the people though were so amazing, kind and helpful the whole time. One lady even took us to the bus stop and gave the driver instructions on where to drop us off.

By lunch time we had not reached our destination - had lunch at on of the cafes on the side of the road. Our batteries recharged we try again and this time we find the elusive Rua Cosmo Velho and the train station. Buy our tickets and wait for the train, the ride up is quite nice and rain forest like. We arrive at Christo Redentor - after walking around and admiring the huge statue we feel let down. The view are nothing compared to Sugar Loaf Mountain and the statue is the only thing there. Well I guess we would have come anyway to see what all the fuss was about (having just won a place in the seven new wonders of the world).

We have fun anyway taking silly pics with our arms stretched and someone lying with the camera between our legs to get a good shot. Shortly afterwards we head back on the train down with a band of musicians - sing s and playing their instruments all the way down. We spent hours looking

for this place and only spend 1hr before wanting to go down and away from it. Maybe if I was a Christian the place would have had more significance. Find our way back to Copacabana - this time on one bus that took us straight there.

Spand the rest of the day exploring Copacabana suburb - buy some jandals and head for the beach to enjoy more Caipirinhas.

Secrets of Rio.
Ah, Rio! Home sweet home.... Is such a pity that you gringos only get to know a small part of our amazing city. Next time, try visiting Grumari Beach and some of the night clubs of Barra Da Tijuca. Actually, this hole neighborhood, Barra Da Tijuca, is wonderful, but they don't take tourists there... And if you really want to know one Roda De Samba, don't go to Lapa, because that is all tuorist-made, and it's just not the real Rio. The true samba you may found in Madureira. Well, I may not reveal the rest of ours carioca's secrets. Hope you enjoy Rio. And pleeease, stop pronouncing "uioou", that's so wrong! I mean, it's not just the name of the city, that's a real word in portuguese, and we here do our best to say "wireless" and "software" and etc, so you try do the same. Kisses.
