Well Christmas and New Years in Canada has come and gone, but we managed to survive a week of crazyness. Why a week, that is because everyone likes to celebrate Christmas and New Years in the timezone of their own country. Then the next 24hrs after each day is about working out the aftermath (and what an aftermath that is).
Probably best to start at the beginning;
A massive Christmas dinner was organised on Christmas eve (photos are included) at our unit. Phillipe, one of the French chefs (he can actually cook unlike most of the others) cooked this awesome spread with smoked salmon, steak and salad. The steak he made with the gravy was unbelievable (may had something to do with the 1/4 bottle of Johnnie Walker that went into it. After dinner we settled into a huge night of drinking with copious amounts of beer, wine, spirits and about 7L of hot spiced wine. The spiced wine did not seem to last long as we were drinking it out of beer mugs. (Ahh fruity hangover)
As can only happen with a large really drunk dysfunctional family (kind of) the night only got more interesting. We had
Boys on the Lake
From left JT, Paul, Nathan, Steve, Rueban and Dylan in front grown men crying, fistfights and a guy nearly getting nailed in the head with a golf club. The "festivities" were still going strong in our room until well after midnight after a few people decided to stage an intervention on one of our housemates which went until 3am. Two of our housemates could not get them to shut up and move outside until Liz brought out the inner bouncer in her self and kicked everyone out of our unit, including not only the guests but a few people who actually live there. Not sure where they slept but as they were alive the next day it must have on someone couch.
The old unit is still a bit tense after that night and the sort out is still occuring. 3 of our old housemates in particular miss us as we brought a 'little' sanity to the crazy world that is Chucktown. Also from that night another unit is facing eviction after setting off multiple fire extinguishers all over the 1st floor. At the moment we are still waiting the outcome of that little adventure.
The best thing is we managed to miss most of the aftermath, as on
Xmas day we moved into couples accomodation which is inside the main building. So we now are in a unit where some of the luxeries of modern life are upon us again with colour tv, a dvd player, proper kichen utensils and a room big enough that we can actually open our bedroom door up without hitting the bed. (Ahh 5 star). Liz was not looking foward to having to move by herself on Xmas day but I managed so have an extra long lunch (about 4 1/2 hours) to give her a hand so the move went rather smoothly and was certainly easier than our last effort from Canberra to Brissie. Of our new flat mates, one is a Sno-cat driver and the other 2 are mechanics who all work at night so we usually have the place to ourselves.
On Christmas night liz cooked an amazing dinner and we ate way to much food as you are apt to do on Xmas day. The packages from our parents arrived on Xmas eve so we were able to snack on Tim Tams for dessert.
And then comes New Year..............
Christmas was tame with what was to
Xmas eve
Dylan and Fiona on the couch follow. Movies such as animal house, american pie and other of that genre could not compare with the antics that occured. The night was huge!!!!!!!!
Fights, people crashing through walls, girls dancing on pool tables, then girls dancing on couches on top of pool tables, then girls dancing on bins on couches on pool tables, drinking games, smashed bottles and way to many drunken "I love you guys" occured and I seemed to have noticed it all. This is because unfortunately I got a case of the flu and got to wander around the chucktown sober (Liz was asleep). This had its highlights as I was able to fill in the gaps for many people of their night and explain to them that there was no good reason why there is a photo of themselves trying to hump a couch (is there ever a good reason).
Also having the flu and going boarding does not work so well either. Especially when you are still getting the hang of it. It rather effects your balance as I found out this morning and in snowbarding terms I "ate shit" down the entire front hill. After that effort I decided riding
Xmas eve
Vinnie and Liz was probably not the best thing to do today so I came back down the hill to write this blog entry.
Lizzy is now a supervisor and is getting paid the big bucks (maybe just above minimum wage in Australia) whilst I am still languishing on the money that a 8 year old Peruvian mine worker gets paid. With the promotion she also gets put on salary, so is basically getting shafted for the moment on hours but with the hill getting a bit more quiet next week she could get an extra day off (maybe). We are trying to get three days off in a row in January and catch the bus up to Edmonton. Not sure what is there except for world largest shopping mall but Liz wants to go there (I may have answered my own question).
Anyway I hope everyone has had an excellent Christmas and Liz and I wish you all the best for the new year. Please keep you emails and messages coming through, we appreciate hearing from everyone.
