You'll be pleased to know that we are going to keep this blog brief as the photo's are far better than our descriptions. Having seen this landmark in so many pictures over the years we hoped it would live up to expectations. From the first moment we glimpsed it from our hotel roof terrace, to then seeing it revealed through the dark archway leading up to the forecourt - it was clear that we would not be disappointed.

In fact this is one of the most beautiful buildings we have ever encountered. Legend has it that the chief architect had his eyes removed upon completion so that he could never emulate this achievement again. (Bennie beware!)

I broke my personal record of number of photos taken of a single landmark usurping my Golden Gate photo shoot by capturing over 300 pictures of the Taj! We've seen it at six in the morning, daybreak, midday. seen it in the afternoon sun, the evening haze, sunset and nightfall.

This stunning building carries with it an air of mystery and of course romance - after all this is a monument to love. Following the untimely death of his second wife the Mogul Emperor spent 35 years building the Taj as a monument to his everlasting love for her. This is surely the most elaborate tomb in the world?

Built from white marble and encased with a variety of precious gems this was expertly crafted by over 20,000 men. However it is the space around the building, the perfect symetary and the raised platform which mean that nothing detracts the eye from this beautiful building - its easy to see why Indians are so proud of her.
