Kenya
Anyone want to pet this cat. We came across 3 lioness in low shrub -- they can blend in and easily disappear from sight. November 22 - 23 - 24 --- Shaba National Reserve
A little uncertainty in our arrival in Nairobi Kenya -- if you have a group of 80 people you are bound to have moments when someone’s brain leaves their body. Such was the case when we were leaving Dubai. Because we were going directly to a game reserve we were told to only take our carry-on bags and that our larger suitcases would remain on plane until we got to Egypt. Well one woman packed her passport in her large suitcase. The result was that the suitcases which had been picked up at 6:30 am and were supposed to be loaded on the plane before our arrival had to be aborted until we arrived at the airport and the passport was retrieved. The result was that we were over an 1 ½ hours late leaving. When we arrived in Nairobi the plan was to board 2 Dash 7 planes for a flight to the nearest airstrip to our hotel. One plane took off (fortunately we were on it). The second plane didn’t. The airfield was no more than a gravel runway in the middle of nowhere with no lights etc.

We came across 3 lioness earlier we had seen 2 different lioness. It would have bee shaving things closely for the second plane to land and takeoff before dark. The result was that the rest of the tour group arrived the next morning.
Our hotel was Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. Very nice and charming, particularly when we walked into our room and found the bed enclosed in a large mosquito net; something that I had only previously seen in old movies. Mare and I have lost weight in the past year, we could have used some of that extra padding when we were on different game drives. (Somebody could make a fortune repairing and replacing shock absorbers.) I will let the pictures do most of the speaking for this segment of our trip. The second night we were entertained with by a group of natives performing some local songs and dances. The third night it was dinner in the jungle again with songs and dances. We did visit native village composed of member of the Samburu and Isiolo tribes. This visit deserves its own blog which will follow.
