We were met at 10am by the hotel manager Mass and the show writer Shemi who explained that we would taken around Singapore with celebs Kim and Bonza and we would be asked to comment on things, try local food and learn more about Singapore and see some sights - sounds good to us!!! We had an interview on the beer garden roof in the hostel about what were were doing in Singapore and how long we were here etc etc and the theme is definitely cheesy cheesy! Wow Singapore (we had to keep saying this all day it was hilarious!)
First stop - DHL helium balloon! The balloon is just located behind the hotel and it is a helium balloon not hot air and they add extra helium once every 3 months!! It goes 150m high and its a cage which you can walk round in a circle but you have to keep the same weight on each side otherwise it tilts! Kim the presenter was scared of hights so it was quite funny and we just had to cheese it up to the camera really and comment on the scenery!
After that we went down Haji Lane
Wow Singapore!!
Me, Lou, Kim, Bonza and 2 faries from the Xmas Show with mont faber Xmas tree!! which is the narrowest lane in Singapore!! We were filming and a pigeon got run over in the background! he he oh dear, needless to say there was a 'take 2' for that one and we had to so it all again! That's showbiz! I had to go to a newly opened clothes store with Kim as it was 2 entrepeneurs who had opened the shop and bought all the clothes from various countries in Asia. I had to try clothes on which if any of you have been to Singapore, the women are skinny skinny and as you know I am not exactly petite! So that was interesting anyway but there was a top for me to wear which was quite nice! ha ha! I found out that they play paper scissors and stones game in Singapore too! Don't ask, me and Kim (shes a celeb you know - ha ha!) had to play it to fight over a necklace!
It seems I did get the good end of the deal though as Lou had to go to a Swedish weighing shop with Bonza owned by Singapore people (?? - I don't know Ok!) and pretend to be interested in the weighing machines, There is a legend that the lady of the shop can tell the weight of any item. So they weighed Lou's bag before the camera went on and then filmed her guessing the weight of the bag! ha ha! What a legend eh!! She then got to drink Egyptian drinks which hers was a red one which was supposed to be good for her circulation!
We went to lunch with the crew and people kept taking photos of Kim so she must be pretty well known! We went to her hawker centre and had chinese noodles with veg. Also tried very popular drink in Singapore which is the Sugar Cane drink which was nice, it was sweet but not in a really sugary way - random I know! My chopstick skills started off well but deteriorated fast today! Lous only used chopsticks for the first time yesterday and she is a whizz!! We were chatting to Kima and the crew and learned that Singaporians can only retire at the age of 85!!! Can you beleive that! They have to pay a pension each month which is kept byut the government and they only receive it when they are 85. They cant have it all at 85 they get given so much per month so if you die before 85 or after a few years the money goes to your family but you cant choose to have more! how rude is that!
Stop 4 was our "fake lunch" where we got to try the local delicacies - eeekkk!! First up was Bak Kut Teh which is a spare rib boiled for hours in a garlic and pepper soup so the meat is really tender, this was delicious and the soup was really spicy! Afterwards came the dodgy bit!! We had to try, Pig's liver - this is disgusting!! It's a rteal flowery taste ugh! We then tried pigs stomach which was Ok, bit chewy and didn't taste bad but I wouldn't eat it again because of what it is!! and then we tried pigs intestine, also doesn't taste that bad, it tastes like sausage but I wouldn't fancy eating it again! This was washed down with Chinese tea which it is believed that if you drink this while you eat, it brings out the flavour in the Bak Kut Teh - (I beg to differ) anbd washed down the oils from the food so you dont get fat - bring it on!!! It was intertesting to see and I doubt we would have tried the Bak Kut Teh if we hadn't had gone so a job well done and we survived! We also learnt some chinese words - Jong Jong - Tender, Dian Dian - Sweet and Ghiam Ghiam - Spicy
Stop 5 - Tiger Beer factory - hurray! To experience brain freeze tiger beer at minus 2 degrees. We did the factory tour which was good, they kept it light and entertaining and had a 4D show which we had to watch. It was quite cartoony but ended in the beer compenants 'doing it' - this was something to do with the process but it was funny so I wasn't paying attention! - Beer Porn!! ha ha! We got to pour our own super cold tiger beer from the pump and drink it! Lou had to down hers on national TV - she did well but got back freeze!
Stop 6 - Vivo City shopping centre- we had an hour to potter round the shops before going off again however me and Lou got a bit lost and held up filimg - ooopppss!
Stop 7 - Mont Faber - jewel Box - With amazing views of the city and you can dine up there, have drinks and watch the xmas performance. We saw the Sunset briefly which was amzaing at that height, the views were stunning. It has one of the world tallest artificial xmas trees which came on as part of the xmas performance which was good. There were a lot of fairy lights and it was very atmospheric! We had to do a camera scene where there had faom snow ans we all had to dance around to music that wasn't on so me and Lou started singing our own!! We danced around a Chritsmas tree though. Bonza thought that people in England sat around the fire and tree at xmas singing carols to each other!! I think we runined his illusion a bit! We had Xmas cocktails - Snow Angel and Ice Fantasy whilst watching the xmas show. It was cool! Chinese celebrations are the opposit of us though and New year is there family time but Xmas is the time when they go out with friends and party until they drop!
A fab but tiring day and really good fun! Nothing like a bit of cheese anyway! ha ha! We are going to be on Channel U a week or 2 before Xmas!!! ha ha! they are going to send the DVD to us as a souvenir which is cool so it should arrive in feb time - Keep an eye out mum!!
Well after all thats...and the day did not end there! We had a quick chill out then headed out for a few drinks. Luke the Ozzie couldnt make it so we went ot he esplanage area which is a big centre by the river which has theatres and stuff in it. We went accorss the bridge to the Merlion, took a few snap shots and went down the river area for a few drinks.
