Hi. I started my teaching course last monday and am fast realising that the students know way more about english grammar than i do. Still, its going well, been teaching most days as well as having theory and methodology classes. Its like work really, im up at 7 and have to commute for 40 minutes into the city..and then i have to plan stuff for the next day when i get home..fortunately its only for a month..

The people on the course are a good bunch, all aussies except for a english guy who has been here for 30 years. There is a chinese guy too who speaks way too fast, god knows how the students understand him..went out for beers after college yesterday and had a rather interesting evening..i got pissed in the city, jumped on the train about 11.30pm and promptly fell asleep. I woke up in a place called moroolbark, which is a few stops down the track from croydon.

I decided to make the best of it and grap a quick beer but the pub was closing so i had to standoutside waiting for a cab with a load of pissed up locals who had just had an argument with some english guy about the state of australian guinness. (he was one of those people who emigrate then spend their time telling the locals how good it is back home..)They were giving him shit as he got in a taxi and were generally slating the poms when one of em asked me what i was doing in moroolbark (i was still dressed in my teaching gear, a bit smart for friday evening in downtown moroolbark).

Of course as soon as i opened my mouth my pom status was revealed..thought it might turn a bit nasty so i quickly peppered my speech with as much foul language as i could muster, made it clear that i thought the guiness guy was a twat and played on my drunkeness (wasnt too hard) to show that i was an unknown quantity should they be looking for a rumble...they turned out to be fine, just a bunch of locals on the friday night piss. I even shared a cab back to croydon with deano, their toothless leader..

other than that, things are fine and dandy. enjoying the course and feel ive made the right choice of college, the resources and support are great. Missing folks from home a bit and the cats, but people on my course have offered to take me to football matches, gigs etc so the social side of things is looking up. Also weve just booked some flight and hotel for spending new year in Alice Springs. We fly up there on the 27th dec for 6 days. I cant wait. My folks havent seen Ayers rock or the olgas before(or Uluru and Kata Tjuta as theyre now known) and i think theyll love it.

anyway, hope all is well back home, and youve all gotten over England not being in Euro 2008.
