Pie making!Pie making!Pie making!

Carrie with dough
Because of limited kitchen and oven space and the fact that we still had to attend class, we had made up an oven schedule which stretched over Wednesday and Thursday. Carrie and I started early because Carrie also had to cook dinner Wednesday night. So on Tuesday night, we gutted, chopped up, and baked a pumpkin in preparation for making pumpkin pie - which neither of us had ever done before- the next day. After class on Wednesday morning, we started mixing up pie crust. We don't have a pastry cutter in the flat so to cut in the shortening we used forks. After mixing the crust we walked to the green grocers and picked up 24 apples, three things of raspberries, and one of strawberries. Before dinner we finished making the berry pie, and after dinner we started on the rest. The pumpkin worried us the most because that was one we just weren't sure about. And the crusts for that pie were supposed to be pre-baked. By 10:00 we had finished making 1 berry, 1 pecan, and 2 pumpkin pies. The apple pie, apple crisp, and chocolate pie we were going to Thursday morning. By 8:30 on Thursday morning we were both in the kitchen. By 10:30 we were finally done making the desserts. The apple pie looked wonderful - even if I don't like apple.
For the first time, I attended class on Thanksgiving. To top it off, it started raining on my walk from campus to the QMC and traffic was horrible. When I got back to the flat it was 4:30-4:45 and dinner was set for 6:30. I helped Kate and Alex set up the church social hall - where we were eating because there was no way that we could fit 30 people into our dining room. Dinner went really well, and we had some great conversations with Matt Ashton - our speaker from a couple weeks ago, who teaches at Trent University. We had, of course, a lot of leftovers which is really wonderful because I love Thanksgiving leftovers. Cleanup was interesting because we had a ton of dishes and they weren't all from our kitchen, we had borrowed some from the church. We were washing dishes in both the church and our kitchen with people running up and down the stairs with dishes that belonged in the other kitchens. By around a 11:00,

we were done with the majority of the cleaning. All and all, a very good Thanksgiving.
