Ok so today was the day we were going to Bamberg, Germany, a town only 30 minutes away by train. We read up on the history of the city and were very anxious to explore a little more of the country. We hadn't exactly ever
seen the train station, but we had been into the center of the city and seen a large structure with stairs down to what we assumed was the station. We were told that train stations were almost always located in the center of the city so we assumed we were all set.
So we were up early and took the bus into town. We walked over to the 'train station' staircase and realized that downstairs was nothing more than a couple bathrooms!!!! OOPS!!! We were way off on our assumption and we'll have to search for the station another day! We settled for a day of wandering around the city and a mochaccino at our favorite cafe.
The Christmas Market was being constructed in the town center and so were able to watch it going up. Germans have an incredible Christmas spirit and we'll have an entire month with a Christmas market in
town. Most towns have their own markets and we'll probably be taking advantage of some weekends visiting other markets. Great for Christmas shopping!!
We have already learned one thing: the Germans are VERY organized! They have signs telling you if the sidewalk is shared pedestrian and bicycle, or if you each have your own lane (sometimes with a median!) The buses are ALWAYS on time!! If the schedule says it will be there at 10:02 expect it at 10:01! They are also very strict in the grocery store!! You must bag your own groceries, but if you are still bagging after you've paid...you'll get dirty looks!! And, the grocery store expects you to bring your own bag. Germans are very eco-conscious. Every household, business, and school recycles into the following categories: plastic, metal/glass, paper, biological, and garbage. Needless to say, there is very little left for the garbage bag!

A Matter of Opinion
Your "disappointment" in finding nothing but bathrooms is my "jackpot" these days - the kid is totally parked on my bladder! I love the photos... I can already tell you're having a blast over there!
