Sunburn
Can't wait to slap nylons on these next Monday... Hello all!
Well, today was my last day in Aussie-land and hence my last travel entry. Hopefully you haven’t been to annoyed with the email alerts and have enjoyed the journey so far.
This morning was a little rough, and for a change it was not from the wine or VB’s (slang for Victoria Bitters beer, which I have taken quite a liking to 😊. No, this morning I found myself in a very disagreeable state thanks to the second-degree sunburns I have in random places on my body. Actually in most places I feel ok, but the back of my legs are not happy right now. Like the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz, every once in a while I need to grease ‘em up with aloe gel just to get going again.
But, this was my last day, so on I pressed. I went downtown and wrapped up my shopping and had breakfast at a cute place in the Rocks district. Eventually, I talked myself into moving again and very, very slowly made it over to Bondi Beach. I had seen it yesterday at the end of my Coastal Walk/Obstacle Course but since I was near
Bondi Beach
One of the largest beaches in the area. death by that point I had not done much but buy a bottle water and leave.
What I learned today is that I am very glad I decided to stay at Coogee and not Bondi. Mostly because, had I stayed in Bondi, I might have been exposed to a very different beach experience. Apparently ladies can go partially “native” if they choose, i.e. sans top, and quite a few selected that option today. Sorry, but if there’s one area - well, technically, two - areas that don’t need exposure to UV rays, it’s the girls. Good lord, imagine trying to snap a bra on after that mess. Yikes. I did take some photos - of the WATER (sorry guys). Enjoy!
From Bondi Beach I stopped at Bondi Junction, which aside from being a main port for trains and buses also had a large shopping area. There is nothing remarkable about that since there is a shopping area at every street corner in this country. But still, people seemed to get excited about it, so there you have it.
After that I headed back to Coogee and took one last trip to the beach. By this time the
Bondi Beachcliff
You can see part of the Coastal Walk in the background. skies had clouded over and a storm was starting to roll in. People were still swimming and jumping around but it was definitely not as crowded as yesterday. One neat thing to see was a group of young guys heading out to do kayaking. Or it could have been surfing. Or both. I’m not really sure, they had a boat, some paddles…ummm...anyway, they had really nice swimsuits. Kim Knoll, I took a photo just for you. And I apologize in advance for not having a zoom lens or getting a close up, but let’s just say it was obvious after a while I was not taking random photos of the ocean 😊
That’s all I have, thanks again Bridgie for putting up with me and helping me get acclimated to Aussie culture. I don’t have words for everything I’ve seen and done…it was an amazing experience. At the same time, I am looking forward to getting back home, having a few beers with friends this holiday weekend, and getting back to my silly little life.
Last but not least I hope that everyone has a chance to have similar adventures. Don’t rely on me 😊
