This one was tucked away in its hole an I thought that would be the closest I would get!

Hello All

So after arrival I spent 1 day in San Jose. I wandered around the town with Irina, one of the Ukranian girls on my trip. The place was not at all inspiring, I didn´t even get my camera out! Lunch at a little Carribean resturant was very nice though. We had a group meeting that evening, then all ate in the hostel before an early night.

The next day we set off for La Fortuna and not a day too soon. It was such a relief to leave San Jose even if it did mean a 5 hour bus journey in a semi-comfortable bus. I sat next to Juan Carlos, our leader, and got lots of information, and saw lots of photographs on the days to come. It all looks very exciting.

La Fortuna was much quieter that San Jose, if a little tourist orientated. Due to the Cronkrite curse for the 2 days we were there you could not see the Volcano from town due to cloud. It rained pretty much the whole 2 days too but at least it is warm (compared to the UK). Day 1 we went on a rainforest hike

Clouds where the volcano is supposed to be!
which was much the same as all previous rainforest hikes I have done. We saw very little wildlife although I got closer to a Tarantula then I ever intended. Mum you would have freaked! At the end we were suppose to have a good view of the Volcano, again swamped in cloud. We then drove round to the other side of the Volcano to see lava. 15 minutes of waiting in the wind we saw a tiny speck of red role down the volcano in the distance. Hmmm. The best part of the trip came next however at Baldi hot springs. A luxury of 25 pools of different temperatures, including some bars! Pina Colada heaven.

The next morning I went white water rafting for the first time. We thought it was going to be cancelled duew to the water levels but they sent some expereinced guys out with us and we had a go. The 1 hour section was over in 45 minutes but it was so exhilerating! To chill we spend the afternoon in a coffee house followed by steak and mashed potoato!

Next stop, after a ´jeep´(or minibus as more commonly known), boat and then another ´jeep´we ended up on Monteverde where I will be fore the next 2 days.

Photos hopefully to follow soon!

(P.S please ignore any typos - these keyboards are wierd!)

lava,spiders & typo's
You don't want to get too near to volcanoes - the sulphur rots your knickerlastic! (Well, that's what they told us at Solfatara! Of course it's true!). Tarantulas don't live in rainforests - they live in glass boxes, don't they? You ALWAYS make typo's. A bad workman blames his tools. You probably shouldn't type after too many Pina Coladas.
