Morning Tea
A wee bit of tea and jam. Dear all,
Well I made it here safe and sound! The plane rides weren't too bad, although by the time I boarded in L.A. I was randomly staring at strangers and inanimate objects... Luckily I slept long enough that I was able to hit the ground running here and have not really had jet lag.
Okay, so what have I done so far. My first day Bridget and I went to Oakleigh and went to the grocery store to pick up a few things. I expected to see very strange and exotic stuff but aside from eggs being stored on shelves and not in a cooler (Leola and Doug, don't laugh) and lunchmeat with outrageous prices (like over 20 bucks for turkey) it was very similar. Later on we had a "barbie" and I tried lamb for the first time (we opted out of kangaroo). Oh, and had some high-powered beverages. Nice start overall!
Day two we bundled up the Sadler kids and trekked out to the Dandenong Ranges. It started off being a rather cool day but it warmed up quickly and the sun was pretty cheery. We sat out at a cafe and had lunch/morning tea,
A little sightseeing
Spending some time in the mountains. strolled around the gardens and checked out the plants. One thing you should know is that Australia is full of beautiful, noisy birds, and since I got here I have been a little crazy over them...I mean, you don't see cockatoos flying around your neighborhood in the states. So, to satisfy my curiousity, Bridget took me down the mountain to a little place where you can have a drink and feed the birds. I was not, however, ready to have birds crawling all over me, which is exactly what happened. My panic was only controlled by the fact that I was almost out of bird food and I could outrun them.
Tony (Bridget's husband) came home early so Bridge and I could do girly things. Our original plan was to go to a lovely thermal spa about an hour east of her house. However, I also had the idea that I needed fish and chips and more wine..so off to the beach we went. Of course there were more birds - seagulls this time - and unlike their pretty cousins were not going to eat out of our hands (I felt the need to protect the wine - that's
right, wine on the beach, totally legal!!!) In fact, we were fairly convinced that they were going to over take our dinner and peck us to death. We scrambled out of there but could not make it to the spa in time..but it looked really nice and had a pretty gift shop. The best thing I learned yesterday is that passengers can drink in the car!!! No open container laws!!! I had wine the whole way home!!! I think I may have to stay longer after all 😊
Not sure what the agenda is for today yet...I am still in pj's at 11am. That's it for now, take a look at the photos and have a laugh.
Cheers,
Carol

G'day
Hi Carol...how awesome! I am so excited about your trip and hearing more about your adventure. From the sounds of it, Australia may have to make it on the travel list of places yet to see for me. The open container law could help in pleading my case to John...lol. Have an awesome time and I can't wait to hear more! G'night! Ang
