Parked
(by JK) Ah! Firenze - Here we are in Tuscany Day 4 of our trip. Our room was along the street and it was warm so we needed to have the windows open. That made for a loud evening with the mopeds and mini cars racing down the cobblestone street. Not to mention the mosquitoes found us to be their 5 course meal. The room and bed itself was nice and comfortable and for that we were able to get some rest.
It was a beautiful day. The sun is shining and mopeds are a singing!! 😊 We are off to see the sites. Florence is so different from Venice and we are experiencing a little bit of culture shock. None the less it is so cool and can only imagine that we could be walking the same streets as Michelangelo use to. The architecture is gigantic, everything is in big scale. I can't get over the size of some of the doors we have seen. From what we can tell Italians were very tiny people and wonder why they needed such huge doorways. Whatever the reason, it’s amazing and we love it.
We planned to try to take the bus
up to San Gimignano for the day. Unfortunately it took us too long to find the bus terminal to make it worthwhile. We decided to get tickets for the next day and spend the day in Florence. I really wanted to go San Gimi today because most major attractions are closed on Mondays in Italy. Oh well we go with the flow.
We stop for a quick drink and sandwich before starting our site seeing of Florence. You can buy a glass of wine or beer right off little vendor cart and drink as you walk down the street-Nice!. We get simple, yet perfectly delicious ham and cheese sandwiches and are satisfied to carry on with our day.
Now we are in pursuit of the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens so we make our way down to the Arno River. Navigating the streets is a little challenging as they go and stop all different directions and are renamed every couple of blocks. We find ourselves finally at the Arno River wondering which bridge is the famous Ponte Vechio. It is really beautiful along the river, with Tuscan colored buildings reflecting in the Arno and grand architecture to take
your breath away- just beautiful. We wander the streets awhile, stopping in to check out sculpture shops with huge statues and items for ones yard or whatever you can install a giant statue of a man on a horse or David replica.
Bill is just busting at the seams to get a moped. At first I was no way in hell. As each time a moped flies by he says something - which is ALL the time. I finally break down and say if he can find a shop to rent, I will do it since he is running around and doing all the things I want to do. +++ If I did not mention before, the mopeds are terrifying here! I am afraid of being hit by one, let alone being on one that could hit someone else. I wont drive one and anyone who knows Bill, knows I better think twice about really getting on one of those monsters with him behind the wheel. I am just hoping we don’t find a rental shop!!
