Welcome to my travel journal and photo album. Whether I am traveling around in my home town or across the sea this is a good place to park those memories and share some experiences.

Our camping trip to Pismo Beach yielded fond memories and dreams of returning. Our road trip home was a canvas for the eyes. Highway 101 at every mile is picturesque and so very beautiful. It was a gorgeous day to drive home. However it teased us with desire to extend our trip to venture into wine country to get silly drunk drinking wine and while looking onto gorgeous landscapes. We made one detour, besides gas stops to the cutest Dutch town called Solvang. We saw it on TV program once and had to make it a must see stop since it was on the way home. We had brunch sitting in an outdoor patio where we enjoyed good food and a scene of what felt like a small European village Dutch town. We only spent about ... read more

North America » United States » California » Pismo Beach April 30th 2010

We headed out to Pismo beach this past weekend to meet up with great friends and do some camping adventure where we have not been before. We stayed at the North Beach Campground just a South of Pismo Beach's main town. We had perfect spot right next the the beach access and the restroom and showers. The camp grounds was great, with lots of trees and nice people around. Still need to worry about theft. We had 5 dogs with us, so I think that help deter any thieves from snooping around our camp. Camping simple, wake up walk and hike around the beaches and town, eat drink and be merry. Do it all over again the next day.... read more

About 2 hour drive North of San Diego is Rancho Cucamonga. We went to wedding here and had a great time staying at the Christmas House Bed and Breakfast. Rancho Cucamonga was surprisingly beautiful with colorful mountain range back drop. We had the most perfect weather and the bluest skies. The best part of our visit, besides the great wedding, was the Christmas House. It is an old Victorian style home with lovely garden, and a giant old fashion porch. The keepers take good care of you and your event. They even provided a pizza party after the reception and breakfast in their home style dinging room for the guest who were staying there. They have about 5 or 6 rooms and private hot tubs for some of the rooms. It is just a great little ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens November 27th 2009

We had a 13 hour layover in Athens. Sadly, the city center of Athens is over an hour drive from the Athens airport. We had a 6am flight, so it was risky and expensive cab rides to go to Athens City center. There are only two hotels near the airport that are VERY expensive being called 4 and 5 star hotels. We were not excited about spending 13 hours in the airport, and another 22+ hour day traveling back to the US. Nor were we excited about spending so much money for couple hours in hotel. We were lucky to be informed we could check with the travel agency desk for an affordable nearby hotel. We needed to get a shower and couple hours of good sleep before catching our flight back to the US. Thankfully ... read more

Middle East » Turkey » Aegean » Kusadasi November 22nd 2009

This was our 4th cruise port stop. We took a 7.5 hour tour for this stop since there was a lot of ground to cover beyond the dock. We put our feet and eyes on some of the oldest and most amazing ancient roman ruins. We had no idea Turkey was so rich with ancient roman history. Our first ancient site was Ephesus. At first glance it looks like a bunch of rubble. Well, all the ancient ruins look like rubble; however it’s the age, detail and massiveness that make these places so remarkable. We spent very little time actually in the town of Kusadasi. The hour we spent was a little uncomfortable, only due to the very pushy and persistant salesmen. We were the last cruise stop for the season and thier last chance to ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Dubrovnik November 15th 2009

Our first port stop, we arrived In Dubrovnik in the morning where we took a bus from the cruise port for 10 euro per person roundtrip. It dropped us off at Dubrovnik's Old Town. First site to be seen was an old fortress with emerald green waters. Instantly we meet a friendly dog who loves to get belly rubs. We took our time with leisure stroll through the Old Town within the famous city walls providing a fortress around the old town. It was clean and beautiful with red tiled roofs and old European architecture. We sampled the local grappa, which made you close one eye and think twice about taking another sip. Of course, we did :) . We made no schedule and did not look at any map to see where we were going. ... read more

North America » Mexico » Baja California » Rosarito September 8th 2009

We put the fear in the closet about going into Baja Mexico and had a great time in one of our favorite Mexico towns. In the past year or so a major rise in kidnapping and murders were happening to many locals. We use to frequent Puerto Nuevo for a day trips with out of town friends. The quaint little town of Puerto Nuevo offers lots of the typical shops you would find in Tijuana with out the crowd and bustle of TJ and some of the best Baja style lobster feast one can imagine at amazing cheap prices. After the rise in hideous crimes against so many, we have stayed out of Mexico and only had fond memories and day dreams of eating lobster at prices we can afford. When our Lake Taho friends invited ... read more

For our 7 year wedding anniversary we did an overnight trip to Santa Catalina Island. We took a ferry for about an hour and a half from Dana Point. Dana Point is a beautiful place in itself and thriving with activity during the summer. We will have to make another trip out just to experience Dana Point. On our ferry ride over to Catalina Island we were pleasantly surprised with an amazing dolphin show. We passed by several schools of dolphins and one school decided to ride the ferry wake and follow us for a little while. It was amazing and a highlight of the trip. Especially since all the times we have been out on the water, we have never seen any dolphins. Arriving in Catalina Island, it was stunning. It was our first trip ... read more

Saving the best for last...our British Virgin Island boat trip ended at Jost Van Dyke Island where the Soggy Dollar Bar lives. The Soggy Dollar gets it name since you have to swim from your boat to get there. They have a clothes line along the bar to dry out wet dollar bills. The Soggy Dollar Bar is the creator of the Pain Killer drink. We also did a quick snorkel stop on our way back to St. John.... read more
