Our camping trip to Pismo Beach yielded fond memories and dreams of returning. Our road trip home was a canvas for the eyes. Highway 101 at every mile is picturesque and so very beautiful. It was a gorgeous day to drive home. However it teased us with desire to extend our trip to venture into wine country to get silly drunk drinking wine and while looking onto gorgeous landscapes. We made one detour, besides gas stops to the cutest Dutch town called Solvang. We saw it on TV program once and had to make it a must see stop since it was on the way home. About 2 hour drive North of San Diego is Rancho Cucamonga. We went to wedding here and had a great time staying at the Christmas House Bed and Breakfast. Rancho Cucamonga was surprisingly beautiful with colorful mountain range back drop. We had the most perfect weather and the bluest skies. The best part of our visit, besides the great wedding, was the Christmas House. It is an old Victorian style home with lovely garden, and a giant old fashion porch. The keepers take good care of you and your event. They even provided a pizza party after the reception and breakfast in their home style dinging room for the guest who were staying there. This was our 4th cruise port stop. We took a 7.5 hour tour for this stop since there was a lot of ground to cover beyond the dock. We put our feet and eyes on some of the oldest and most amazing ancient roman ruins. We had no idea Turkey was so rich with ancient roman history. Our first ancient site was Ephesus. At first glance it looks like a bunch of rubble. Well, all the ancient ruins look like rubble; however it’s the age, detail and massiveness that make these places so remarkable. We put the fear in the closet about going into Baja Mexico and had a great time in one of our favorite Mexico towns. In the past year or so a major rise in kidnapping and murders were happening to many locals. We use to frequent Puerto Nuevo for a day trips with out of town friends. The quaint little town of Puerto Nuevo offers lots of the typical shops you would find in Tijuana with out the crowd and bustle of TJ and some of the best Baja style lobster feast one can imagine at amazing cheap prices. After the rise in hideous crimes against so many, we have stayed out of Mexico and only had fond memories and day dreams of eating lobster at prices we can afford. Saving the best for last...our British Virgin Island boat trip ended at Jost Van Dyke Island where the Soggy Dollar Bar lives. The Soggy Dollar gets it name since you have to swim from your boat to get there. They have a clothes line along the bar to dry out wet dollar bills.
