What a muggy place!
O.k. I've made it up to Paihia eventually ... there was an incredible hitch in the plan when I went to catch the coach at the bottom of the Sky Tower in Auckland and discovered that my ticket was booked for Friday 14th October and not Wednesday 28th September as I had intended!!! What the incredibly useless guy who booked my ticket at the YHA travel office! I've learnt lots of lessons there, but v. proud of myself for insisting on compensation ... They had to sort out my journey for the following day and also put me up in a 4-bed room of my own!! I had the best night sleep so far. From now on I think I'm going to take more control over bookings!!!

So now that I'm in Paihia, it's not quite what I was expecting and with three nights in the chalet I've got a lot of time to catch up on e-mails and diary. This morning the weather was drizzly so I opened up the playing cards and had a few rounds of Gin Rummy with an American woman called Marleen. Also in my dorm was an Irish woman who it seems has been

Great views across the bay from the revolving tower
all over the place and I wished her luck on the Magic Bus because she didn't quite seem the type!! I'm glad I haven't got a tight schedule like lots of the other travellers, they're cramming everything in just to be able to say they've been there and done that. Not quite my cup of tea. However I have just been to visit Waitangi Reserve where the Treaty was signed. There was an informative audio show and great views across the bay, even if a bit cloudy. Walking along the beach in a rainproof coat is always good!!!

The last time I left an entry I wasn't feeling too confident about images but

hopefully

these will give everyone an idea of what I've been up to.
