As well as being the lead singer in Kajagoogoo, Lima is also the capital of Peru and is where Paddington Bear is from. We'd heard a lot of stories about the city being very unsafe before arriving and weren't reassured when the taxi driver Jim hired to get us to our hostel couldn't find it and we spent over 2 hours driving around aimlessly.

The hostel itself was a dive, the worst so far. I woke up this morning with someone in the room next to me playing shitty metal (think Korn but even worse), and the realisation that our room was actually outside. Nevertheless, we ventured out for breakfast and found a German run place that did pancakes and scrambled eggs with turkey. However, rather than possessing the efficiency you would expect from a nation that gave us Volkswagen and David Hasselhoff's music career, my turkey wasn't cooked and th panckaes came out after nearly an hour and still managed to be cold.

After this, things could only get better, and they did. We watched the changing of the guards in which the guards present didn't actually appear to change, then we went on a tour of the San Francisco monastery and the catacombs underneath, before going to the cathedral and the museum of the Spanish Inquisition (which wa surprisingly crap. Maybe no one was expecting it).

That evening we took taxis to Miraflores, the nice part of town where we had cocktails, come great seafood and then went to Hooters (as you do), before a very dodgy nightclub at the insistence of a very drunk Lynette. Got back at 3 ish, not the best idea when you have a drive day ahead of you but never mind...

Paddington didn't really have what I would imagine is the accent of someone from Lima, least of all a bear.
