Uluru (Ayers Rock)
Sunrise and Coffee Well sunrise at this time of year is pretty early so was up at 4am frightened awake by the alarm call on the hotel phone!
We drove to the sunrise spot infront of Uluru and enjoyed a very welcome cup of coffee as the first light strikes Uluru I think the photos speak for themselves as its difficult to convey the awesomeness of this place in words, it really is something to experience. From here and with the sun still rising we took a guided walk to Mutitjule waterhole and saw cave paintings and heard the legends of Kunija Tjukurpa (Python Dreaming) Then continuing on the Mala Walk to learn the story of the Mala (Hare Wallaby) people who once lived at Uluru We saw painted caves and learnt of the regions geology and flora. At the base of Uluru we visited Kantju Gorge, a sacred waterhole recently filled by rain which has been very scarce this year. Next we headed to the Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Crafts Cooperative dedicated to interpreting Anangu culture and law for the visitor to this region It was rather windy this morning so it was not possible to climb Uluru which the Anangu
Traditional Owners would prefer you did not anyway because of its religious significance So quite a busy morning and its still only 10am! So after checking out of my room at the Sails in the Desert Hotel I was able to take a heliciopter ride over the Olgas and Uluru to get an aerial view of the whole Red Centre Area and Resort which was fantastic and so glad I did it!
This afternoon we left Ayers Rock and travelled east to passing Atila (Mount Conner) in the distance This is a facinating flat topped mountain, like Table Mountain in South Africa which juts out of the surrounding desert plain bearing witness to a period of massive uplift followed by years of erosion From here to a welcome afternoon tea break at Kings Creek Station where I was taken to my amazing teneted accommodation in Watarrka National Park called Kings Canon Wilderness Lodge This evening there are only 3 of us staying, but they can accommodated 20 people it is vey remote and I must say rather luxurious! I feel some pampering coming on!!

Tour Guide Neil
Lovely pics Keith. I must say, your tour guide looks like a slender version of Alf Stewart! How appropriate! I'm still looking on in envy at all the things your getting up to. It looks amazing there. Keep the blogs coming xx
