Olgas at a distance
Leaving Adelaide behind the 2 hour flight to Alice Springs went quickly chatting to Jake, a young man on his way to the Diamond mines an hour out of Alice Springs He reminded me a lot of Simon, my godson being tall, a sports fan and drummer with a wicked sense of humour and good company!
Once at Alice Springs it was a short wait for my flight to Ayers Rock 50 minutes away Arriving at my hotel The Sails in the Desert it was a quick turn around to be collected by the Australian Pacific Touring Comapany Coach heading off to the Olgas (Kata Tjuta) These are an immense Rock formation which dominate the Western Skyline of Ulura-Kata Tjuta National Park This remarkable formation of 36 domes is thought to have once been a single rock many times the size of Uluru (Ayers Rock) We were taken to a great vantage point to get some amazing photos before taking a walk into Walpa (Olga) Gorge following the natural creek which flows between two domes Boy was it hot but not up to the 40 degrees it can get up to here and yes I was wearing my hat!!
We then

headed to Ulura (Ayers Rock) and saw one of the solar powered cars taking part in the Darwin to Adelaide race and the place where it is possible to climb to the summit of The Rock This is a very sacred to the Aboriginal people who still live and work here and they discourage people climbing it because of its religious significance They say it is a place for listening to everything. Today it is a world heritage area, rightly so because it is a truly awesome place to visit and watching Uluru at sunset is spectacular with all the incredible changes in light as the sun goes down helped by a glass or two of red!
Its up very early in the morning to see the sun rise over the Rock 4.40am good grief so must hit the sack now!
