Back in Deutchland- Munchen style!
On the way to munich we stopped at Dachau Concentration Camp-the first concentration camp. Supposedly there were no mass killings at this camp, but it was set up to happen. Some groups of people were killed here though. As I walked through the camp it was hard to believe that something like this had happened to people in our world. It's even harder to think that it's still happening in some places. The walk through the cremetorium was very eerie and surreal. Even though there were people all around it was completely silent, everyone lost in their own thoughts. I think I wandered for an hour and half through the camp completely by myself. And when you looked around it seemed that everyone there was alone too. It was quite a somber place and I took a moment to really reflect about what it was like and be thankful for what I have.
We got into Munich, or Munchen, around 6 in the evening and got ready for dinner and some drinks at the Hofbrau House - the biggest and most well known beer hall in Munich. I couldn't wait to go. Munich was
Hofbrau Haus
Me and the Michelle's drinking our liters the city I was looking forward to the most on the trip and I was ready to live it up now that I was here! Since our hotel was in pretty much the city center we were able to walk there and also walked by the Glockenspiel Clock. The Clock wasn't really much to look at especially since it was being restored or something and was almost completely covered in scaffolding except for the small area for the people come out of and do a little scene 2 or 3 times during the day. As it happens I didn't get to see the whole thing ever since you had to be in Marienplatz at exactly the right time. Anyway, Chad, our tour manager, explained to us that when we got into the beerhall that you should just go in and sit down at any table wherever in small groups. He did recommend sitting near the band since that tends to be the liveliest area. So 4 of us sat down and managed to end up at a table that was reserved for the locals. They, of course, didn't mind 4 girls sitting with them though so they invited us to
stay. We ended up trying to talk to them through dinner which of course was hard since we don't speak any german and they didnt speak much english. We ordered our liters! of beer and pork knuckles. Now the pork knuckles looked disgusting, but were actually really good. Luckily for us, one of the old guys that we were sitting with offered to cut ours off the bone and prepare our pork knuckles for us. Man, I was grateful for that because it would have been quite a mess otherwise. Turned out the guys we sat down next to were here listening to their friend in the band, so we got to chat a little bit with the band guys too. So much fun! Affter we were done eating we said goodbye to our new German friends and found some of our gang and ordered one last liter of beer. Then I got to thinking that I had just drank equivilent to a 2 liter bottle of beer and I was almost sickened. I got over it and we decided to head out to some clubs in east ban hof in munich and had a great time. The next morning
we got to sleep in which was amzing since most days we really have to get up by 7:30 or so. At noon we went on a bike tour around the city. We had a great guide and rode all through the city and into the huge English Gardens. We stopped off at the Chinese beer garden for lunch. On the way back through the garden we were blessed with the image of some old men nude sun bathing (yes, they do that here! In a public park!) After I threw up a little in my mouth, we found our way back to the Izar River where, due to some kind of dam, there were actually people surfing. Very cool! It was a great ride and I managed to not get hit by any cars or run anyone over and see the city which is beautiful and much bigger than I had expected. After the afternoon of bike riding I did some major shopping, where I bought some new clothes and some beer steins. What more could a girl ask for?? Tomorrow we leave for Venice and a stop off in Austria for some white water rafting. Should be great
besides the fact that I have to wear a wetsuit which is already frightening me!
