naantali inbounds! naantali inbounds! naantali inbounds!

Jana-Germany (AFS), Sylvia-Canada, and well ME! CORRALES NEWMEXICO!!!

This past week was "Test Week" at school, which means the 6 week period is over and all students are taking their exams. It started on Thursday. Each day there were a couple different tests, so somedays the students had off, if they weren't taking the test for that day. I had the entire week off because this period I wasn't taking any tests. The other two exchange students, Jana and Sylvia, also had the week off, so our "counslor" at school, Laila, arranged for us to work at Taimo Elementary school, teaching English to youngsers! We arrived on Thursday morning and worked for Mrs. Ulla Ora-Nikolainen. She taught five English classes a day, and we helped out in every way possible! We acted out in plays about princesses and slaying dragons, we got interviewed by the students and they practiced their English speaking skills with us. Each class was basically the same thing ie-"whats your favorite color? movie? book? animal? band?- Do you have any sisters or brothers? We played games, and practiced grammer. The students were adorable. Most of them were 4th Ears (haha 'ears' instead of 'years', yes, because they have been hearing English for 4 years!).

me acting in a play, i am the princess that is locked in a cave (under the table) and my prince is trying to save me!
We broke into small groups where anywhere from 3 to 6 students were with each vaihto-oppilas (foreign exchange student...i.e-Me) interviewing us and getting to know us. We also go to know them. They each presented this little story book that they had written about themselves. Inside they had written about their family, hobbies, favorite animals, and favorite school subject. Some of the students had older brothers and sisters at Lukio (upper secondary school, where I attend) and I knew many of them, or I had been to some event or party with them! I practiced my finnish with the little ones and they loved to laugh at everything I said. I had a lot of fun helping out, and getting a taste of what it is like to teach youngters a foreign language! In the mornings when Leena would drope me off, all the students would be waiting outside for class to begin, and as I would walk by all the students would say "good morning" or "hello" it was so much fun. Every day after 1:00 we were free to leave, so I would walk the half km to the bus stop and catch a ride back home. On

my last day I was walking toward the bus stop and two little boys from one of my classes counted to three and yelled "good bye miss stephanie, have a nice day!" it was the cutiest thing ever! It made me smile! On my last Thursday I went to work with Eija (rotary counsler) and I gave my presentation to every English class where she was substitute teaching. We had a lot of fun.
