Cafe on the edge..Manarola
This cafe was unreal! We didn't eat here because, well, because it was scary. Cinque Terre is on the Italian Riveria, in the north-west. We may say this quite a bit, but definitely a major highlight of the journey! We took the train from Venice, and were stunned when we pierced the coast, glancing through the window at the beautiful aqua-marine sea beside us. We knew we'd enjoy our stay here, and already imagined booking extra days!
Upon arrival at Monterosso, the first of the "five lands", we went directly to the beach and enjoyed a beer at the sea-wall (which you can purchase out of a vending machine). KT had to take the camera from my hands before I melted the shutter. Absolutely gorgeous!
Our hotel was up a windy, steep hill. Kind of hilarious to picture us crating all of our stuff, sweating profusely, to the accommodation! Known for the amazing hiking in the area, we embarked upon the "most challenging" climb one day. After getting lost almost immediately, we proceeded to keep going even though we knew with 100% certainty, we shouldn't need machetes to clear the path!
Taking trains to neighboring towns, Vernazza, Cornilia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Exploring the incredible views from sheer cliffs (replete with dangerous cafes),
Vernazza, Cinque Terre
Too many photo opportunities. Karl spun out of control, fell over cliff. Is okay now. having paninis and espresso for lunch, taking the boat for the sea-view perspective - all so much fun. The water was chilly, but we had to swim in that water!
