A glimpse of the rainforset
Back on the road we headed down to Hervey Bay for our trip to Fraser Island. I have spent many a pub conversation sat quietly while people regale their Fraser Island memories to each other, having not been, (unlike the rest of the world), I could never join in, well not anymore.

And it was amazing.

After an extremely windy ferry ride across the water, we boarded our 4x4 monster bus and headed off down the rocky, sandy roads. It is beautiful there, lots of rainforest and unusual plants, but to be honest, after 15 mins the plant talk was boring me and I was hoping this wasn't it. My plant knowledge has been mildy helped by gardenersworld.com , but I'm no Charlie Dimmock - for more than one reason.

We had been advised to sit at the front - the poor Americans at the back of the bus not only got thrown around like a bag on a BA flight, but got covered in sand every time the door shut (quiet laughter from us at the front, Americans, not hugely impressed).

We stayed in lovely tents with real beds, nicer than some of the rooms we'd been in - and bigger. Even Oddball was happy as there were lots of photos to be taken, and we were happy as there were other people to talk to. Met three lovely English people who were travelling around, nice to have some other normal people except me and Gerard. As we had been with Oddball for a week we had all got a bit used to him, it is only when you see him with new people that you realise he is a bit weird socially - well very. Was amusing to watch the others first impressions form - we just sat bck and enjoyed the show.

Day two on the island was my favourite, a highlight being a plane ride over the island - stunning. We saw a whale and her calf swimming away, dolphins and some people saw sharks, we even saw a dingo but there was no baby in it's mouth.

After some bumpy driving we got to some amazing fresh water lakes, it's a shame on the worlds biggest beach that you can't swim, but the lakes made up for it and despite the water being cold we were going in. Someone had told us the pH of the water was good for your skin and hair, I'm not sure if it's made a difference but I'm sure I look younger, really. Positive. (I'm such a sucker - how many moons are there?)

We got stuck in a traffic jam caused by stupid tourists and our ferry got stuck in the mud for about 4 hours because the tide was out. All god though as we had loads of 4x left so drank and watched the sunset.

Anyway, tick off the Fraser box.
