Wow.......Wow.......Wow.......

is what your thinking right now...
The Grand Canyon!!!!!!!!!

Well Flagstaff first. Got in at just past 12, so couldn't get a free ride to hostel but as I had called them a couple of times before they knew I was coming late so left my key in the mailbox and put me in a private room instead of a dorm. I couldn't get into the room coz the lock was knackered so had to collar some woman into who I thought worked there into sorting it. Got in and slept after a long time and in preperation for an early start to the Grand Canyon!

Got up and ready in time, sorted out payment for rooms and canyon tour. An english woman worked there, sounded posh but didn't talk posh if you get me. She was pretty nice though and soon the tour began. I was party of a small party of 5 others and we got driven up in a van and the first stop was a shop for supplies etc before we headed to the actual canyon.

On the way there the guy driving said they way the other tour groups did it in the past for the first look out

was to close your eyes or look down on the approach and then stand in line and on the count of 3 open the eyes at the same time to see the canyon, so we did that and well I reckon it was a good choice coz the first site just blows you away. It is immense and so surreal. You look into the distance and it appears like a painting. There was a couple of trials you could do so did a hike though as we had limited time and I was with a group of less athletic members, I didn't go to the bottom but did hike a fair way. I have to say its quite interesting hiking the canyon as when your on your way down your worried about falling but when you go back up its so steep and rocky and far that it tires you out. Its still really cool to do though despite the dangers. We went from there to several other lookout points whose names escape me. We had lunch (vegetarian sandwiches and water!) on one of the over looks, stopped off at some indian ruins that date back 800 years or something - they weren't that great though snakes were supposed to be abundant in the area but I didn't see any. We went to more look outs and I did more hiking. Its the best exercise you can get and the views are amazing plus you got that added bonus of possibly falling to your death ;-)

The last stop was an indian market, which was closing up when we got there but was on a Najevo reservation that had its own spectacular gorge so there was more photos there. We then went back to the hostel, stopping off longer then we should off so this guy can get a photo of himself standing next to a sign of a town that has the same name as him....

I didn't do too much back at the hostel, had some food, went out for some drink and noticed Flagstaff has a lot of bars for a small town, even the shop where I got my soft drink was an off license.

I went to bed pretty early that night as I had another bus to catch in the morning, this time to THE VEGAS (Las Vegas to those who

its big thats for sure
don't get the reference).

Got a lift in a Mercury (a rip off of a cadillac) and ran into Patrick at the bus station (the texan military man from Austin) and headed to Vegas. I have to say the scenrey is quite stunning with all the mountains and the slow change from green and plains to more rocky, desert setting. It feels liek the middle of nowhere though there is developments out there.

Well next stop is Vegas!
