We woke up on Wednesday feeling a bit beat up from all the walking and not nearly enough resting. I think we forgot we are supposed to be on vacation and we have 40+ days to see everything. We decided that since it was supposed to rain anyway for the next few days we would just stay nice and mellow in the apartment. I don't think we actually went outside until well into the "pomerriggio" (afternoon). When we decided we needed to see the sun before the rain started, we headed to the Piazza San Marco to read (Jen) and sketch (Marc). We sat on a park bench for about two hours and then decided to grab some pizza and head back to the aparment. And that was the day - completely relaxing and peaceful. The rain started in the evening and it continued into the night - what a wonderful way to fall asleep, to the sound of falling rain 😊

On Thursday we wanted to stay mellow again, but had to get some fresh air, albeit wet. We trekked over to the Mercato Centrale a.k.a. Foodie Heaven! One entire floor dedicated to meat/cheese/dry goods and another floor dedicated to fruits and veggies. We spent a couple of hours perusing all the goods. Gus is showcasing the largest squash we had ever seen in our lives (yes, even bigger than the ones that grow in the Shuttleton Back Forty!). Fairly impressive! There was every kind of meat imaginable, as well as every part of every animal...yeeeesh. Jen did okay until the cow snouts and bull testicles. Those pushed her right over the "I'm-already-semi-nauseous-all-the-time-due-to-pregnancy" cliff - and we were off.

Outside is the Piazza San Lorenzo which is loaded with all sorts of goodies - leather bags, leather coats, all sort of sweaters and scarves and beautiful glass jewelry. All souvenirs will have to wait...we're just comparison shopping thus far. 😊

After a quick nap, we ventured out again for a visit to the nearest cafe for espresso (for Gus) and hot chocolate (for Jen)...man, the Italians really know how to do food right!

The rain really started up again...so back to the apartment we trekked...but not without a visit to McDonald's. Now, you are not allowed to judge. When the pregnant lady says "Man, a Big Mac sounds AMAZING right now", you wisely oblige. Mmmmmm...Big Mac and fries....happy belly!

Good night to one and all...Friday...to be continued...
