Yummy lunch treats!Yummy lunch treats!Yummy lunch treats!

Mmmmm...I'll take two of everything!
Oh yeah, walking, walking, walking!

We walked about 15 miles in our first two days in Florence...good thing we didn't pack any fancy shoes! We decided to trek on over to the Ponte Vecchio on our second day. No reason to be overzealous in our itineraries, we have 6 weeks after all!

The Ponte Vecchio is well known for it's seemingly hundreds of jewelry stores...how in the world do they all stay in business? There are just a bunch of lookie-loos milling around (just like us)! Still as picturesque as last time we were here and just as crazy full of tourists!

After crossing the bridge, Jen realized that the "Mr. Jimmy American Bakery" was just "oltrarno" (on the other side of the river)...Yes, Mister Jimmy. That is just so fun to say. Mister Jimmy....ha! Anyway, we began our quest shortly after crossing the Ponte Vecchio, but not without stopping for sustenance at a very tasty little "tavola calda" (see pic). Now for those of you who have been to Florence, you are aware of the funky numbering system over here. There are one set of addresses for businesses and one set for residences...and they don't relate one bit to each other. You can have 56 next to 114R...it gets a little nutty. So after much searching all around for Mister Jimmy at number 6 we had to give up the quest - it was not to be - no scones or chocolate chip cookies for Gus today.

We decided that we should go back and take naps to recharge for the afternoon...so we walked ALL the way back to the apartment - just a cool 2+ miles! We really must be gluttons for punishment! After a rest we decided that walking any more was for the birds and it was time to attempt Florence public transport. We grabbed the number 13 bus to Piazza Michaelangelo which is also "oltrarno" and has some of the best views of the city.

We make it to the top and are rewarded! Views AND gelato! Could it get much better? We think not. Jen saw something completely Italian. Again, for those who have been here, you know the drivers ARE NUTS! And for those of you who haven't been here...yikes...driving is NOT for the faint of heart. While enjoying aforementioned gelato I saw a woman on a moped, merging with traffic, with a ciggy in one hand, the other hand (thankfully) on the handle and her cell phone jammed up into her helmet - I mean, how else can she be expected to drive, smoke AND talk on the phone?!?!!? I mean, really, she's just being practical. 😊 I nearly had a heart attack! Eh, it's just Italy!

The bus ride back was great - warm, sunny and sleep-inducing - nap time once again!

That's all for today! Buona sera tutti!

Ummm yeah.
Hey guys, I'm not sure I can continue to read your blog. Or at least, I'm not sure if I can read it while I'm at work. :-) It's exciting and creating a little Charlie Brown cloud of envy over my head that may take a while to go away. SO glad you guys are having a blast, you deserve it!
