I attempted to ride one of the flat's bikes to the post office today after the registration mayhem. Now, I have been watching bikers fly past for about the last week or so as I tried to map out a route to campus that would not involve me riding on the road amidst traffic like so many of the bikers that I saw. After pumping up tires and taking several deep breaths, I pushed out onto the sidewalk - on the left side of the road. Strangely enough, this didn't feel weird. Everything went fine until the signs told me that I had to cross the road. The problem was that my destination was not on that side of the road. So I made a little circle to the post office. No problem. And the post office was right by Jubilee Campus - where we can catch a hopper bus to main campus and where I have to register tomorrow. Now to get back - all good until the sign that says “Bike path ends Rejoin traffic lane”. Not good. Chances are if I do rejoin traffic I will get hit. So I sat and debated what to do. About two minutes later, another biker comes by and stays on the sidewalk. I decide to follow him and cross the street as soon as possible. I jump traffic and make it to the other side! A straight shot from there to the flat and I make it in just under 20 minutes. Biking was definitely an interesting experience and beats waiting for the bus any day.

But no pictures???
Great story - sounds like you are finding your way around (even on the left side of the road). Wish there was a photo of you biking! Can't wait to hear more - asf.
