We left with our friends Jean and Judy and traveled up to Durham and looked about there and of course visited Durham Cathedral which was built over 1000 years ago built right up high on top of steep cliff, with the river winding below forming a large horse shoe shape. Although we had been there before we thoroughly enjoyed looking over it once again. We all agreed we very much liked Durham, it's setting and lovely old buildings. We drove north to Washington where we stayed the night. The next morning we drove into the center of Newcastle. We wandered about the city and of course visited the Cathedral, the smallest Cathedral in England. It is quite lovely and I was especially pleased to see where some of my great grandparents were married some hundred and fifty years ago. We had a lovely lunch in a very nice pub across from the Castle over looking the river. The photos included will show the vibrant city we saw from a number of vantage points. Then in the late afternoon we drove to Tynemouth looked all about and saw the remains of the old Priory.
